Enjoyed a few drinks in here and a couple of games of pool with friends last Summer. Very large pub with televisions, games room and dining area. A very local, mans pub and probably popular for families too. Definately worth a visit. Not drunk here in the evening. Service and bar staff friendly. Environment and tables clean. Toilets a bit dirty/umkempt.

I love this pub from an architectural perspective. It’s an absolute cavern inside- high ceilings and still retains some original features. I like to sit here with a pint on match days, especially when West Ham are playing at home.

It gets noisy here at night, and men get searched on the door coming in. Never a good sign. However, if you want to experience a real East End pub with plenty of charm, this is it.

This pub is acceptable - has a level of charm and quite large inside. I went in there while Manchester United and Bayern Munich were playing and the atmosphere was pretty good but I was a little confused as to why a couple of groups of Russians or Eastern Europeans continued to walk from one side to the pub to the other, then another section for at least 45 minutes. It was very much like the leader was getting a message from the control tower to go to one area of the pub and wait for the next instruction, which would be to go to another section of the pub. The handsome one would take the lead while the line towards the back just got uglier. The best Guinness I had in the hell-hole of an area that night.

There is some very attractive and interesting original Victorian green tiling inside, plus some original cast iron pillars. Unfortunately the tiling is obscured by no smoking signage, plus adverts for the great value food and the forthcoming poker night. Seating is mainly banquette style, with some high stools and tables as well as some caff style tables and chairs in the back room that is essentially now a pool room. There were some old photographs on the walls that seemed to of local scenes I recognised the impressive town hall opposite in one of them. The serried ranks of games machines and one armed bandits complete the picture.

It seemed a pretty soulless place on a damp and murky Wednesday lunchtime, though maybe it would seem more welcoming at other times. They dont sell real ale, and the Stella was off during my visit. Frankly, I cant see much to recommend this place, and doubt whether I shall be visiting again.

New management here and sensitive refurbishment have improved the place considerably. Just needs some decent real ale.

Agree with beeronaut. This pub could be a real gem within the area. This pub has been there since the beginning of time. Indeed my g.grandmother was a regular, shame to see it lose its unique 'eastend' appeal. Come on make this pub great again and one to be proud of !

Sorry about this - talking about the Spoons; will visit the Denmark soon though as the brilliant South Indian cafes in East Ham keep drawing me back there !

Probably your only bet for real ale in the area (though that pub on Plaistow is high street is great), but quality was well down on a couple of years ago, and it's out of the Beer Guide. On the other hand, I quite like the East London 'Spoons with their more local feel, and this one is not as shabby as those east of the Circular. Sunday lunches looked really good, don't know about waits !

Formerly a Victorian gin palace this pub has unfortunately been stripped out internally and now only some of the tiling and beams (painted red to look like the England flag?) remain. This is a sad comedown for what must have been a spectacular interior. There is also no real ale.
