Really good fuelling stop (food & drink) near to Widdybank Fell and Cow Green, Caters for passing trade and people staying/camping nearby with hearty meals and at least 2 well kept beers e.g. Jarrow "Rivet Catcher". Recommended as one of the very best options in this part of Pennines

The Jarrow Brewery Rivet Catcher is tremendous & a lovely part of the world. It's worth staying over too - even if the bath water is a little brown. Oh, and there's a Geology exhibition on. Don't think I've ever seen that in a boozer before

Visited this pub for the first time after walking to High Cup Nick and back. Perfect end to a brilliant day. Unpretentious, cosy and with excellent beer (Rivet Catcher and a new Black Sheep product called Golden Sheep). Also our party of four enjoyed our meals - (very spicy beef Madras). All served by friendly, interested staff. Looking forward to making my next visit.

This pub is the Tan Hill Inn of Upper Teesdale - remote, basic and seemingly with fires burning whatever the time of year. Even if you haven't traipsed across the moors in a snowstorm to get to it, it's the sort of place that makes you feel as though you have. There was a good selection of decent ales and a nice atmosphere when we were there. Two minor criticisms though: why does everything on the menu come with chips and peas, even dishes with a pasta or rice element to them? If we'd ordered pudding (which we didn't), we'd have half expected chips and peas with that too. And the bed and breakfast was over-priced for what it was. Otherwise, the Langdon Beck Hotel is authentic and original, and you can't say that about many place in these days of Wetherspoonisation and blandism.

Looked out for this isolated Good Beer Guide pub while visiting High Force, and found a welcoming pub atmosphere. Enjoyed our real ales, and were tempted by the good food on offer - not disappointed with either.

Great place to seek out - in the middle of nowhere. Ideally situated for a walk out to High Cup Nick and for an overnight on the Pennine Way. Very hospitable landlord/lady serving excellent home cooked food. Local lamb is DELICIOUS. Good range of real ales from local independents. Deserves support.

Great pub in remote, spectacular setting. Two nice cozy bars with good beer selection, dining room at the side. It seems to have got bigger since I last visited 25 years ago, strange that but I do remember the beer was nice then....some brilliant walking around here.
