Popped in here for lunch whilst working in the area. Very good food, a decent pint and friendly staff.

Had a nice walk in the woods behind the pub before having a late afternoon meal with family. Service was very welcoming and food nice if a little overcooked. Tried the Marstons - Single Hop Wai-iti beer which was different but still served well.
Popped in while waiting for my takeaway on a quiet Sunday evening. Pint was fine and it seemed inviting and friendly, Nice interior and I hear the food is good as well.
I agree it is a shame the name has changed, however don't let that put you off.

What a great place, not only is the beer good, but the food is superb as well - the total opposite to the sister pub The Exchequer in Crookham Village (see my review). Friendly staff and good service - don't be put off by the rather odd name of the place, will definitely use again - highly recommended.

Unfortunately this old pub. has been renamed The Hoggett!! What a GHASTLY name! It has been the Dorchester Arms for a long time --there is an old photograph in the foyer which must be at least 100 years old and it is clearly named in the photo. as The Dorchester Arms. Why on earth did the new owners want to change the name? The Dorchester Arms sounds classy--The Hoggett sounds rough. Has the local history society complained about this change of name? They ought to! I won't be going there unless the name is changed back.

ate last night for the first time, classy menu bit more of a restaurant than a pub especially with the prices. not the best value for money in the area would suggest using one of the smaller village pubs if you want that. beer remains well kept.
drunk in here a few times since the refurb, always had a good pint - look forward to seeing what the guest beer is when we do return. staff reasonably friendly although get the feeling drinkers are not really required!
Thankyou tadley musher for confirming it is a restaurant and not a pub, may try it for a meal sometime though!
Now known as THE HOGGET. friendly manager and staff but the pub is set up for meals only so we had to sit at the bar and had to keep moving for the waiters to get past. very clean and tidy. BUT NOT A PUB FOR DRINKER'S.
According to the dictionary a hogget(t) is a sheep not a pig?? Walked in for a drink and straight out again. Set up for diners not drinkers.
We ate here as a group of 7 for a friend's birthday. Food was great and made from locally sourced, seasonal ingredients; restaurant prices but excellent quality so good value for money. Service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. They were happy to cater for complicated dietary requirements and didn't even encourage us to leave when all the other customers had gone home! We'll definitely be going back.

Probably the best pub in Hook. That is not saying much at all though.
amen to timdogs comments about Hook pubs, I'll now go and visit the Hoggets.
just visited the 'Hogget' for lunch and beer. At last another good pub in Hook (as well as crooked billet).
extremely good makeover, excellent food (although a little overpriced which will hurt trade) and excellent beer.
best bit is lac of TVs and yobs found in the other hook pubs.
the Hoggets will do well.
and maybe the landlords of white hart, old white hart and raven wil slowly begin to realise they have a captive audience of well off residents to attract and that they could make more money doing that inseda of going for the 19 year old idiots and fat racists they currently seem obsessed with attracting....
well done hoggets.
Now re-opened as "Hoggets". Not been in it yet.
I am told the Dorchester is due to close "shortly" for a major re-furbishment and possibly a name change as well.
The Dorchester Arms is a few miles away from me, but nevertheless I've become a regular there because of the superb food, the Monday night trivia quiz and the very friendly atmosphere. They serve Hogsback TEA as well, yummy. My favourite pub.
Having used the 'Dorchester' four nights a week for almost a year, I can thoroughly recommend it. Friendly atmosphere, good food, an excellent pint of beer - what more could one ask for?!
Currently (Feb. 2005) as well as exercising your right arm with a pint of Ringwoods, you can also exercise your 'grey matter' with a pub quiz on Monday nights (8 o'clock start).

Fun and freindly atmosphere, polite staff, good beer and lovely food. I could also take my dog which was lovely.
