Quite busy and had a good atmosphere although my pint wasn't the best I have ever tasted. Staff welcoming and friendly.

Popped into The Old Cross to have lunch today. It was served very promptly by obliging and pleasant staff. It was very tasty.

Excellent choice on the menu and wide variety of drinks available. The pub was clean, as were the toiletds and glasses knives and forks.

I look forward to going back there!!

This looks like a fantastic old pub from the outside, and is conveniently situated right on the High Street. Inside its a bit disappointing though. Its obviously part of a large chain with various corporate menus and notices around the place and with its wooden panelling and leather sofas has the feel in some places of a hotel lounge bar rather than a pub.

Although it is presumably a genuinely old building it must have at some time in the past lost all its original internal features, and theres been a pathetic attempt to recreate them. The fake wooden beams are bad enough, but have a look at the black wooden lintel above the alcove on the left of the pub. Here youll find stuck on plastic mouldings that are supposed to resemble the carvings that you would get on an old fire place or the like. But they just look as though someones thrown Yorkshire puddings at it. The fact that the middle one has fallen off and just left an imprint where it used to be is even worse. Its almost worth a trip in to the pub just so you can have a laugh.

Clearly the locals are wise to the fake nature of this pub, and on a recent Monday night visit we were the only people in there until a couple of others wandered in to enquire whether they were actually open or not. The barmaid was fairly disinterested (understandable, perhaps) and bizarrely served a port in a straight glass like you would get a lemonade in. Whats that about?

Beers on offer were Spitfire, Adnams Broadside and Greene King IPA. The only cider was Strongbow unfortunately.

Popped in yesterday evening and was suprised to look around and see 3 other people in the bar ordered a large bacardi and coke and a fosters and didnt see much change out of a tenner served by a polite young women but at the prices they charge in here i could see why the place was empty wont be rushing back for a while

Visited early evening prior to going to theatre. We were the only ones in there. We asked if we could order food and the guy behind the bar said he's better go and see whether they had got a chef that evening!!!!! They did have and we ordered fish and chips. The chips were fine if tasteless but the fish hadn't been de-boned and I spent the meal removing bones from my mouth. I gave up in the end and just ate the chips. No atmosphere whatsoever which is a pity because it's in a good location. Young man that served us was perfectly aimiable and polite which is all I ask for in a barman. Probably won't go back.

The '3' rating is purely for the lovely architecture both inside and outside this Inn. Disappointingly the over the top prices and dispicable service leave a lot to be desired

Popped into this with family and friends Sunday afternoon - desparate to find somewhere serving food before 6pm. I really wanted to have a good experience here but it wasn't - totally ripped off by the 'large' fish and chips - 3 more expensive but only the chips were bigger not the fish!!!

Nice old fashioned pub. Only us two and half a dozen pensioners in at lunchtime. The food looked good and the beer was decent. Deserves more custom.

A nice pub, well presented, with friendly staff but unfortunately a lack of customers! The staff almost look startled at being disturbed when you go in. This is strange for a pub with no obvious defects, hopefully things will pick up.
