This pub is a real gem. I called at about 1100 on 6 August for a refreshing pint while country walking: alas too early of course for lunch but the menu looked good and very, very reasonably priced: good range of beers too. Extremely welcoming and definitely worth another and longer visit, winter or summer. Pub does B&B but we live locally so need to stay overnight.

Welcoming rural pub.Excellent Otter ale.

After a disappointing dinner at the Three Horseshoes nearby we tried the Elsted Inn on the following evening. What a contrast..!! Landlord and landlady were friendly, chatty and welcoming. Food was tasty (my gammon was delicious). The pub is a haven for car enthusiasts having regular meets for those with 'cherished' automobiles. Delightful.

New owners since middle of last year...Excellent pub...good ale and food and at reasonable prices....right on the road that runs into the village, but it's not that busy...has B&B too...nice little gem in fanatstic countryside...recommended if in the area or passing nearby

This pub has, once again, changed hands. The food is wonderful and the choice of beers outstanding for sauch an out-of-the-way place

I stayed at this B&B for a weekend recently.. and I have to say we had a really wonderful time. The landlord and staff are so friendly and welcoming... and the place has such a warm homely feel to it. We loved the area and went on beautiful walks during the day and came back tired to really delicious meals in the cosy pub in the evening. We were only visiting for a weekend but if we lived locally I think we would become regulars! :-) Thanks to all at the Elsted for such a great weekend.

The B and B at this pub could be so good - wonderful area for views and walks, good bed, nice large bathroom, etc. - just a couple of moans: we were cold. Proper sheets and blankets, but not enough blankets. Also, lights too bright, had to draw wardrobe curtain over bedside light. Also: advertises view of Downs, but only just visible. Pub itself is nice Victorian railway inn type, well done up, please just tweak your B and B and I will come again.

Well-kept Ballard's in particular. This is a more drinker-orientated, less picturesque but I suppose less prissy counterpoint to the Three Horseshoes up the road. Very different, but in a good way. Clean, neat and not without atmosphere thanks to the lively local customers, this is worth a punt, especially en route to any one of the many other classic freehouses in this area.

A pub with good food and beer. The main bitter is the local brew, Ballards. Well worth trying. Staff friendly
