Signs of life at the Strutt. I'm told that the builders are in and that it will be refurbished and relaunched after years of closure. First thought was that it would probably be another addition to the Carehome Corridor along the A6 but apparently not. It is going to be a "high spec" pub, whatever that involves. With three successful boozers in close proximity, it will need to have its wits about it but superannuated jazz and blues fans like yours truly will be keen to see what they do to what was once one of the best music pubs in the East Midland.

This pub could probably qualify for an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for the number of times that it has closed and reopened during the last 18 months.

I called in for a pint on Sunday lunchtime and wished that I had not bothered.

OK, it was clean and comfortable, but I was the only customer. And no wonder. I had a very indifferent pint of Pedigree which was served by a very scruffy barman in a baseball cap and a filthy t-shirt. Under normal circumstances I would have complained about the quality of the beer, but the barman was not the sort of guy that I would pick a fight with.

My advice is to avoid until which ever pub group owns that owns the Strutt Arms gets its act together. I will not be at all surprised the next time that I drive past to see the all too familiar Under New Management banners outside.

We booked 3 rooms for relatives attending our parents Diamond Anniversary. They booked on a Bed and Breakfast rate and were asked for the money when the arrived. The next morning there was no-one about and no breakfasts for them or the other guests who had booked for breakfast at an earlier time. No-one could be raised and eventually our relatives had to let themselves out by the fire exit. I'll let you rate the service based on this information and hope anyone booking has a better experience than my cousins.

I called in again the other night, the first time since the new people took over. Unfortunately I was a unimpressed. It was almost dead inside except for a few rough looking drinkers. There was only Pedi on offer and it wasn't top quality either. My advice is if you're looking for a good pub and pint, the King William and Holly Bush are just round the corner. I know it's under new management and things can be a bit rocky for a while when a pub is taken over, so I will try it again in the future.

A handwritten sign on the door says Closed temporarily due to unforeseen circumstances.

Talking to the locals in the King Billy about it at lunchtime yesterday, it seems that the unforeseen circumstances is that the owner has gone bankrupt.

I hope that things soon get sorted, because although the Strutt Arms is not one of my favourite pubs, it is a million times better than the cold soulless barn a few yards away called the Mill House

Very friendly staff. Small range of nicely kept ales. I've had a few Sunday dinners there and I would certainly recommend it to anyone. Ale fans should make sure they visit the nearby Holly Bush and King William too.

Beer range and quality not up to nearby King William or Hollybush but food a bonus.

Handy pub on main A6 with good selection and quality of bar meals and sandwiches available all day until 9:30 PM Monday to Saturday and at least 7:30 PM Sundays, quickly served. No smoking area. Two cask ales, in good condition. Also accommodation available if wanted.
