2 bar local in a suburb of Reading. This pub is in the current Good Beer Guide, which is possibly a little surprising. Courage Best & Youngs Bitter are the only 2 ales on offer and I don't believe the selection ever changes. The one room is a saloon and the other a public bar. There are tables at the front of the pub and a small courtyard at the rear. The staff and customers are definitely friendly.

Average suburban two-roomer, beer (Youngs) good enough but the loud Greene King pub over the road had most of the young custom.

2 bars, 'saloon' bar had a real fire and was quite cosy but dead, other bar was a bit more busy full of locals. Wasn't oozing friendliness, had 3 beers on but only 2 in the public bar so missed the probably superior Alton FFF beer, my Deuchars IPS was OK but nothing special, the other real ale was Courage I think. Part of the local CAMRA real ale trail, went there to meet the local branch but no one turned up!

A great little pub. One of the best I have been in.

Only ever been in the Public bar (although don't think it is labelled as such). Decent honest boozer - what you see is what you get. Beer has always been in good nick - sound rather than spectacular.

Wish there were more pubs like this - a place to drink in unpretentious (but clean) surroundings.

Enjoyable old-skool boozer, split into plush lounge and a spartan public bar.

As commented below, the public bar is dominated by the pool table and is home to satellite sports and darts. The lounge is a quieter cosier affair, mainly housing the older clientle.

Two ales on, Courage Best and Deuchars IPA - the Deuchars is usually a pretty good bet here for the quality.

Whilst not necessarily being a pub to go out of the way for, it's well-worth a stop if you're nearby or down the hill in Caversham and near the bus stop.

Visited as part of the local CAMRA branch's ale trail. Slightly sneery know-it-all look from barmaid as I asked for the ale trail stickers along with our two halves (first pub of the night and we had other trail pubs to move onto). Good to see an old-fashioned layout with a (not in use) off-sales window as you enter, then public bar to right and lounge to left. Public bar dominated by pool table and locals restricting access to bar area. Decent enough beer on, although not a big choice. Lounge bar comfortable. Couldn't say hand on heart that it would be a regular trip out, nothing would pull me in again apart from it appearing on the trail again in other years.

A fantastic proper pub. Traditional split between Salon and public bar. Public bar has machines, sky tv pool table and darts board. Salon is a comfortable place to enjoy a superb pint in a relaxing and quiet atmosphere. The best pint of Deuchars IPA I have ever had. A real find staff are friendly and the place is immaculately clean. No food but in my opinion that's a good thing.
