New management and the food is now very good

Fairly average pub a few minutes walk from Monkseaton metro station. There is a dining room on one side and a public bar to the other. Tables were all laid out in the dining room. But despite this no food was being served. There are 4 handpumps in all - 2 in each room, with no apparent notice stating what is in the other room. The 4 ales on my visit were Marstons Pedigree, Robinsons Beerdo, Wells Bombardier Burning Gold & Exmoor Hound Dog. They were all fairly pale ales. But the Beerdo was fine.

we went in for lunch only to be told the manager was at Morrisons. Waited a while for him to return but the food wasn't very good

This would be a much better pub if it wasn't absolutely filthy.
The beer's good, the company's good etc but those seats make me feel quite ill

Wonderful local pub, good selection of ales and really good food. It even has its own little library.

Food Fantastic, Beer Awsome, Craic Amazing, Atmosphere wouderful! I have to say this must be one of the best pubs in the UK! I'm now trying to talk my wife into moving so I can make this little gem my local.

After moving out of the glorified wine bar (AKA Monkseaton Arms) I have found a great local pub - along with most of the other locals, who have also left the local wine bar! Carry on the good work Cliffy - Everyone luv's ya!

The pub now has a new Landlord and is slowly getting back to normal again. I have sampled the food and it is excellent, if you don't mind waiting.

This has been my local for many years. It was a good pub and well run by Bass as a managed house, until they franchised it about five years ago. At that point, the pub could have gone up or down as a result. Sadly it nosedived, when the lease was awarded to somebody who simply does not know the first thing about how to run a pub (or any business for that matter). It's finally been put up for sale (for an extortionate 169K) as the business is now on its last legs, and we long suffering regulars are praying for a good landlord who can restore it to it's former status of 'best pub in Monkseaton'. Please check this pub out - Not just to see how bad it has become through mismanagement - But how good it could be (and was) under more competant management.
