12 of use went here for a meal we had to wait 25 minutes for someone to come and take our order even though they were not busy when the starters arrived the soup was like pepperey water and the other starters were small for the price of them the main course was better but still on the small side for what they cost the afters were ok still pricey for the size of them we were also sat by the toilet door / exit so people were pushing behind us to reach the toilet and exit but on a good note the waiting staff were friendly and helpful

Seven of us went for a meal thier last night. We could only find 2 small things wrong. One of the guys had the Deep Fried Brie as a starter and he said one of the pieces could have done with being cooked a little longer. The second thing was my chicken was just a little over cooked.
Overall then: Food 9/10 Beer well kept but a little pricey 7/10 Service 9/10 I must say that it was not a busy night so things could have been different but I am willing to give the place another go.

Tried to eat here once, stayed for about 10 minutes, no service. Times may of changed...

Goodness me Looi you don't eat out much do you. This place is hopeless. The second wost food in the town (after the Swiss Cottage). Actually no, I think this is worse.
Note to chef - Swordfish does not taste right with the Rosemary sauce you use for the lamb!
Hopeless. What a waste of a beautiful building and good location. No wonder the Red Lion can get away with charging what they do.

I am absolutely surprised by the negative comments from some of the reviewers here. I have now been frequenting the Amsterdam since ~1999. I have always found the service, general manager exceptionally polite. Amsterdam do support its local community by recruiting from local children seeking part time position and occasionally these employees (teenagers) are less attentive but not enough to cause me any grief what so ever. More importantly, their food especially their gammon steak is one of the best. Their mix and match menu - 2 for 10 are fantastic value. My advise, don't be put off by the negative comments, see for yourself.

Not good.
Hugely overpriced and 'not nice' food. I had "potato skins" at circa 6.50. Turned out to be the skin from about one potato, accompanied by disgustingly overcooked 'cheese' and a revolting and insubstantial so-called "dip." When I had the temerity to complain, I was made to feel as if I had crawled out from the primordial soup that morning! Venture in here at your peril.
Horrible.

The beer was o.k. and in ggod condition. We went for lunch and I'm afraid that the food was awful. No flavour, not cooked properly, the vegetables were hard and cold. The advertised special soup was not available and we were the first people in !!! I certainly won't eat there again

Not really the same atmosphere as the Red Lion
|
The bar food is fine but service in the restaurant can be slow. Beer choices and condition are well above average. Loses out a bit on style to the Red Lion across the road.
|
Handy if you're to tight to buy a ticket for the airshow.
|
its an ok pub. but just average.
