Went here for a bite to eat after our regular pub was shut for the evening. Very very surprised how great it was, lovely atmosphere, great service (even though a busy night according to staff), friendly and polite clientele and punters. All in all a must visit if in the area at all.

Only popped in for quick pint but was pleasantly suprised. What looked like a regular old pub from the outside has been transformed inside in clever mix of the traditionalwith a contempory feel. Beers was good and menus looked nice but didn't get chance to eat. The uniformed staff appeared very professional and there was a nice atmosphere. Only let down was that the loo's (although modern) could have used a deep clean. Would definatly go back to try more....

I attend this pub fairly regularly and agree with a lot of comments below. This CAN be a great local pub. It certainly has the old world/listed building charm with beams, log fire etc., that such a small rural town pub should have. The staff have always been friendly when I have been here and the beer is good � all Shepherd Neame, which is great with me (still serving my favourite drop: Shep�s autumn ale, Late Red, even in mid-May!) The atmosphere is generally laid back, but lively enough as not to make it boring. Food is good quality pub grub too, if a tad overpriced.
My only criticism would be that the management, for some reason (probably money), seem to insist on having a disco night every week/fortnight(?) on Fridays and Saturdays. They insist on playing ridiculously loud dance and rap music � totally inappropriate for such an old world pub and it has the undesirable effect of enticing every village or small town chav from a 10 mile radius to the Ship. So people who just fancy a quiet pint or some food in a pleasant setting not only have to put up with blearing chav music, but also the place being rammed full with mullet-haired, Lyle and Scott clad, mockney 18-21 year olds. This may make the management money, but for me totally spoils the image and ambiance of a decent pub, hence a 6/10 rating (the pub could easily be a 8/10, were it not for this aberration.)

this is thae place to go if your in company and are looking for a bit more than a pint and a cheese roll, but still retain a nice pub atmosphere, the ship seems to do this really well,with a modern spacious interior whiile still keeping it's old world pub charm, the food was really good if a tad dearer than else where in the area, and the service was prompt and friendly and the beer was good ,we only ended up in here by accident as the Warren didn't take bank cards, but was glad we ended up here and will certainly be back when we're in the area

A pleasant town pub with a spacious interior, bare floors and a woodburner which adds to the atmosphere. The feel of the place is traditional yet modern - a good balance and a comfortable mix. The staff were friendly and helpful. There were 3 beers on, all Sheps. The Late Red I had was on the turn but still drinkable. This a good place to spend an evening having a few drinks in calm surroundings.

This pub is now under new managment, and the new people are much friendlier than the previous people! They are very welcoming, and actually get stuck in behind the bar, which makes a nice change from before.
Was in there over the weekend, which I believe was their first weekend since taking the pub over, and it was busy on both Friday and Saturday and there was a really good atmosphere in there on both nights.

Not the best pub in New Romney, but not the worst.
It's nice to sit in the rather lovely beer garden on a summer's afternoon, and it is a nice venue to meet with friends before moving on.
However, if you visit this pub on a Friday or Saturday night you will be very disappointed!
It takes an age to get served, and what is served is usually very below average. The bar staff try hard but are not helped out by the landlord and lady.
The landlord stands at the end of the bar and frowns at everyone who dares to order a drink... Very unwelcoming! Plus, I'm sure this just makes the staff even slower.
The prices are much too high.
The place also completely lacks atmosphere! This used to be an amazing ye olde worlde pub once upon a time but now it looks more like a 'McPub' unfortunately!
I have eaten here a couple of times and have found the food to be very nice. In fact, I highly recommend the Sunday lunch. However, I haven't eaten here for a couple of months and I have heard a lot of bad reviews from friends recently. Which is a shame.
All in all, a pub to visit when all the others are shut!
