Was very busy, the pub seemed okay but let down by poor service - staff not served in order which always takes the gloss off even of the best of ales. Also the locals seemed a bit 'League of Gentlemen' . Certainly not worth going out of the way to.

This pub was once a thriving place with a good atmosphere and a variety of good beers, and reasonably good value food. This is not the case now, and I refer to "madmom"s post above. It has certainly sat on it's laurels for far too long. The landlord/owner has not re invested in the place. The decor is shabby, and for saying he runs a restaurant there the toilets are nothing short of squalid. In the Gents the hand dryer is not fit for purpose, even when it works! It's just a gesture and should have been replaced over a year ago with a proper machine. No towels, paper or otherwise are provided. Don't visit in the winter, if at all. I've seen people eating with their overcoats on shivering. Most sensible people leave! The staff seem to be denied using their initiative, by putting a gas fire on. When asked the answer's always "oh I'm not allowed to put it on" It's very clear that the landlord/owner is running the pub solely for his own pocket and doesn't give a damn for his customers, which are drifting away to the competition.

Went in yesterday & still the usual boring 7 uninspiring selection of ales they have had since I started using it over 10 years ago, don't think I'll bother again, it is surrounded by better, and better value pubs.

This one should be a lot better than it is. There's a good choice of pubs nearby, including some of the best in the country, but this, despite being in a promising location, seems content to rest on its laurels and not try making the effort to turn good into great. Ten handpulls, and the bers are well kept but a place that's been a GBG mainstay for as long as this has should be a bit more adventurous - you can get most of them in Wetherspoon's. You're better off getting the bus to the next stop (or walking twenty minutes) and going into the Crispin or the Brit.

Not bad - but I have been in better pubs. A fairly good selection of beers although the Greene King rep had obviously done his job well!! Just the one pint and then off down the hill. I would probably use this place again but will not go out of my way - it's OK but that's about it.

After being recommended this pub I was quite disappointed and very embaressed. Firstly the bar staff are very rude to new trainees I myself witnessed a new recruit being trained on the bar and then being humiliated in front of the customers. I own a business of my own and would never treat staff in this way.The waitress who served us was a lovely girl and she was very polite couldn't of asked for a better service but the way that the kitchen staff and the landlord spoke to her was disgraceful, it was embarrasing for her and for the customers. Theres a lot of tension in this pub and the staff have a lot of resentment towards each other. The cooks need to stop shouting and abusing other staff they think they are Gordan Ramsey! IN MY OPINION STEER CLEAR.

Recently visited on a weekday lunchtime with six others. 9 ales, 3 Belgians, 2 ciders and fruit wines on. Oakham Citra and Evan Evans Summer Ale were excellent. Seven meals were ordered and served with a smile. Good home-cooked Black Country fare, special mention must be given to the choice of 10 speciality sausages and 10 types of mash and gravy. Reasonably priced in a relaxed setting, two large rooms and a dining area. Previously came here on a session when the place was rammed on a Saturday night, and was not disappointed either. Will definitely return.

Excellent selection of beers in a nice cosy pub. Well worth a visit.

A rather angry gnome like man served me a very sour pint. Wouldn't bother going again. Unless you like angry gnomes!

Very cosy and friendly pub. We didn't eat but the menu looked very nice. will definitely go again and try the food next time.

Good beer and a good atmosphere. I use it fairly regularly (especially about 3-5 years ago).
Great pint of Enville Ale here as well as the continental lagers. Nice food too, and no riff-raff to spoil it.

Doing another crawl of the area, and this time sampled the food as well as the beer. There is a raised dining area, and the food was very good as was the beer. Still a first class pub to visit.

Good local in Lower Gornal, plenty of Real Ales available and a cheery atmosphere. There did appear to be a preponderance of rather large dogs all trying to have a go at each other. Still an excellent pub to visit.

Enjoyed another visit to this excellent pub while visiting Lower Gornal and was not disappointed by the choice or condition of the beer.

Only recently visited this pub and i have to say that it has to be one of the best pubs in the dudley area. Lovely clientele, warm welcome, friendly staff and some beautiful real ales to boot. Never tried the food but it smells great and looks incredibly good value. Spent a few summer evenings in the beer garden. Great Pub.

Extremely busy pub which always has an excellent selection of changing guest beers together with Belgian Lagers and Hoegaarden. Nice and cosy atmosphere with piped music. Good Food available until 9pm

A large selection of real ales unfortunately never has any MILD (hence low rating) so had to carry on down the hill to the OLD BULLS HEAD for an excellent pint of of PIG on the WALL MILD.
