This pub can be reached along a slip road from a busy dual carriageway. It has recently started to open all day on Sundays. There appeared to be a few characters sat outside the front of the pub, with loud music being played. The interior had two rooms and felt far more cosy. A garden around the side was reasonably pleasant and had some swings covered in bird poo and a slide. 2 ales are served - Ringwood Forty Niner & Flack Manor Hedge Hop.

Have just had a chance to visit the SOM after a long absence. The beer, Ringwood Best and 49'er both well kept. The character(besides Jamie !) is that of a traditional local, sadly missing elsewhere.

One of my favourites! I got a good head here and I don`t mean just the beer!

A while since I visited, but I didn't get a good reception either, but since the pub was run-down and the beer very poor, it didn't matter much. Amazed it was in the Good Beer Guide.

The shoulder is the best pub you will find in the the area. The landlady Viv and her husband Jamie are friendly and make people feel welcome. There is no other pub like it. What more could you want in the summer then to get a drink and sit in the gardens/playarea and enjoy the sunshine and the genral chit chat.Long Live The shoulder of Mutton.

This is a biased revue,i play darts for this pub.
In the 10 years i have played for and against this outfit i have never had a bad night in this "Proper"
pub.Being an ale drinker, and never i repeat never, having to send a bad pint back,is a testament to the landlord's beer keeping skills.
The fact that the pub runs 4 dart teams, gives a clue to how popular this place is,agreed they stare at strangers, the prices are through the roof, the footie is in arabic, they dont do food and the landlord couldn't possibly have another drink,"Oh alright then i'll have a Carling"makes it one of my favourite pubs in Bournemouth.
Long may it be compared to the Slaughtered Lamb,a pub where the head lasts the whole pint through!

Not a friendly pub. As said in the previous comments you get stared at when you walk in. I have not seen that sort of reaction since the 1980's when i was a skinhead and entered a pub where iwas not known. If you stay there a little while the locals do warm up but only a little.

NICKNAMED THE SLAUGHTERED LAMB AFTER THE PUB IN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, WHERE STRANGERS ARE NOT GIVEN A WARM RECEPTION

Small local pub with garden/play area.

Dilapidated hole of a pub that serves no purpose. One of these places where heads swivel as the door opens and malevolent glares are directed towards any stranger who has the temerity to enter this place.
