Pepper Box Inn, Ulcombeback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Serve beer well, serve good food, be nice to your customers, set yourself up in a pub full of character and decorate it sympathetically. This old pub game is a breeze surely?
Effortlessly good pub with great views.

Great pub for food and drink. A Shepherd Neame pub, but had four Sheps on tap last time I was there a couple of weeks ago, including the seasonal spring Early Bird, which was delicious. They also have a great wine list, all of which you can buy by the glass. The food, both the normal evening and lunch fayre, and Sunday lunch, is superb. The building is really well done out, inclide and out. The garden area out the front is nice too with spectacular views. One of the best pubs in the area easily.

This is my local - its superb the beers good as is the food. It has lovely views, plenty of parking. Go later in the evening and all the people for the food side have vacated the bar and its quiet and peace full. Super open fire in the colder weather, good parking.

Great rural location, overlooking the Low Weald. Excellent Shepherd Neame beer. Well worth seeking out.

Prior to last week, it had been several years since I was in The Pepperbox - can't think why, as it lives up to everything the previous comments say about it (though I didn't eat there, so I can't comment on the food). Marvellous location; great atmosphere (busy but peaceful, dominated by quiet conversation); friendly, helpful service; good beer (and I'm not a great Sheps' fan, in normal circumstances). Altogether first-rate; I shall certainly be back. (By the way, just for the sake of accuracy, the pub's high on the greensand ridge, not the downs.)

Visited July-06 in 33C temperatures - lunchtime was pretty full, mostly 45+ crowd but a good mix. Outstanding views across to Headcorn as this is on top of the downs and must be one of the highest pints in Kent. Excellent food - try the sizzling pltters - and Sheps beers. Very pleasant beer garden and quintissential-english-country-pub-setting. A picture postcard if ever there was one. A must-visit, one you could take granny or the office secretary to and make both happy.

This is another of our top 5 pubs, having first gone there for a gorgeous evening meal with friends and later for a weekday lunch. On both occasions, it was very well attended - unsurprisingly, for here is a hostelry which very nearly has it all, only the size of its car park being a possible minus - though not an issue if you're walking! The menu is imaginative and the food very well presented, the rival of any gastro pub I can think of. The staff are friendly, courteous and extremely efficient, really making you feel welcome and special. The ale is very well kept althoug it is restricted to Shepherd Neame - no bad thing in itself, but guest ales are always an added dimension. The building itself is quintessentially Kent, a treat in itself and a huge log fire in winter with leather sofas adjacent are worth heading for if they're unnoccupied. All in all this is quite a place, justifiably popular so book ahead if you're planning to go at peak times.
