Lovely Adnams pub here. Always got a nice guest ale on. Lovely little walled garden for the summer. Very nice food as well. Eaten here countless times and it's always been quality fodder. Best pub in the village in my mind.

When you want to drink and/or dine in a traditional English pub, why bother with anywhere else, go for the best? Simon & Victoria have established a true gem here. Excellent beer (only Adnams available in the town), excellent wine and excellent food accompany the real pub atmosphere that Simon & Victoria have created and maintain. Keep it up and please stick around. A very content local and regular.

Great pub serving Adnams beers and local Nethergate forget drinking wine this is a traditional pub for the real ale society .

To be fair, it is important to update reviews. The beer is still excellent, always in good nick. The food never disappoints and the camembert is back: rejoice! I hear from informed sources that there will also be another wine by the glass soon so feedback is acted upon. This is a genuine gem: go here and enjoy!

Still impressed with the place. Almost always has two Adnams beers on, one from the local Nethergate brewery and a.n.other.. The beer is well-kept and the food is excellent. The only gripes: wine by the glass could be more imaginative: it is fine but not wildly exciting. The second gripe is more serious: Simon must bring back the baked camembert!

Glad to see Simon & Victoria deservedly won the best Food and best Overall Pub awards from Adnams for 2008 - keep it up, it's much appreciated. Thanks a lot, from a happy local :-)

good standard ale, great value wholesome sandwiches on superb wholemeal bread...
very pleasant visit on Saturday lunchtime.....if it weren't for the electrician working in the pub whilst we were trying to talk over the din from his power tools....toilets weren't finished yet either.

Much, much better again under its new management. Good beer, very well kept, and lovely food. Food service is pretty hopeless though, so don't expect to eat quickly, but that's no bad thing as it gives you more time to have another pint
Gives some impressions of being run on a shoestring, the pub has changed hands twice in two years, suspect Adnams' rent is a struggle. The new proprietors are nice people trying to do a good job, and mostly succeeding. They deserve a bit of support

Rather nice actually. Good Adnams and a pleasant pint of Nethergate both times I have been there. The food is also very good indeed, chips and more creative stuff. Give it a go...

Have recently visited this pub now it's under new management. Very welcoming. Good food and ale served with a genuine desire to please. Will definitely return and will be recommending to friends.

Further to the above comments, please be aware that the Cock Inn at Clare changed hands on Monday 3/09/2007 and will be closed for two weeks for redecorating. It is planned to re-open on Friday 14/09/2007. Simon, the new landlord, intends to return the Cock to its previous high standard, serving real ale and good inexpensive pub food.

Having visited Clare on numerous occations it is lovely to see this pub turned back into a traditional pub that serves good quallity English food at very reasonable prices.Very well kept beer with fantastic service.

Sadly this place has recently changed hands and gone significantly downmarket. And downhill. A little slice of Haverhill in the middle of Clare. For those who dont now the area, this isn't a good thing

Relatively recently refurbished pub aiming at the posh end of home cooking and decent beer market - Well kept Adnams beers on tap and guests, usually from the local Nethergate brewery. Nice atmosphere and very friendly service
