It's okay I suppose and the Roaring Meg Leveller was a decent pint but it does feel a bit syndicated and without character.

Amazing choice of beers where most on our visit seem to drinking lager. Saturday afternoon saw loud music and the TV on so we oldies reired to the Plough next door.
|
Large pub next door to the Plough, busy and bustling at half past 12 on Saturday. A good selection of ales of which the Black Sheep and Moonshine were tried and found good. A mixed clientele, and a friendly atmosphere meant that we all enjoyed our stop here.

I too was in here as the football was cancelled.
Busy pub at the side entrance of the Frenchgate centre, bang next to the plough (previously reviewed by me as a great pub). Visited early Sat afternoon when a match was being shown, good mix of cliental, 5 bitters on draught, of which 2 were local.
A pleasant experience was had in this establishment, busy, good beer and friendly..all good.

With our game cancelled we headed in here to watch the footie on the big screen. The beer (Black Sheep; Robinsons and one other which I forget) were in good nick and the place was busy and bustling. The decor has probably gone past its "sell-by"date but apparently this was the very first Tut'n'Shive so maybe they want to keep it that way for a while yet. The pub is now owned by Greene King and although their beers are on sale we were told that at least 3 guest ales would always be available. Why can't other GK pubs offer this choice??? Anyway,we had a couple of pints each and then made the long walk to The Plough!!!!

Decent, lively and 'warm' pub that stands near to the train station. It doesn't really have any stand out points, but does always have a decent choice of real ale on the bar, so certainly worth a visit if you are in Doncaster. If you fancy something a little more authentic however, then try the Plough next door.

Had a few pints in here before going to the football at Armthorpe...decent ale...child free....decent music
|
I agree with the comments of Twineyboy... this is a lively pub and it does have sky sports on a big screen... the beer is well kept but the music can be a bit loud and it can sometimes smell a bit rough.... stale beer springs to mind.
However, dont let that put you off.... the Moonshine is a cracking pint along with a couple of other less well known ones. There is a nice mix of ages and its not really on the "idiot" scene so you can have a decent pint and watch the footy...

Visited before the recent QPR vs Doncaster game and I have to say the place was lively, mainly because the QPR fans had taken possession. That said the overall view of the pub was that whilst the decor appeared a bit tired the Kelham Island Riders of the Storm and the Everards Sundancer were both in good nick. If I'm honest the Plough next door is more my cup of tea but the Tut is not a bad boozer.

I love this pub the beer is amazing and you can get brothers toffee apple cider in there also, the big thing in there is the staff all very friendly actually give you the time of day which most pubs dont, the staff the beer the atmosphere is all amazing 100%

I agree with many of the comments from other punters - I only had one beer in here (Toad Brewery Tadpole - average beer!) and opted for The Plough next door. The decor is now a bit "old-hat" but the place was busy with live TV being shown on screens in almost every corner. However,it is good to see this pub still going considering its proximity to the many "venue" bars in the town centre.

Very lively town centre pub, which reminded me of an Irish pub. About 5 or 6 real ales were on including Riders on the Storm and Pale Rider from Kelham Island. Cider was from Aspalls. There were plenty of football supporters in and a live game was being shown on a big screen. A friendly atmosphere. The interior is a little dark. But I was very surprised to see a pinball machine on the way to the toilets.

This is one of the livelier town centre pubs with a grungy feel that you would normally expect with a small music venue. A subsequent read through previous reviews suggests that they have put on live bands in the past but I didnt note anything to suggest that this is still the case although there is a raised area in front corner that would presumably double up as a stage. The general furnishings and decor are quite basic with stone floors, solid seats, graffiti laden tables (some made from old barrels), old posters and a backdrop of indie and rock music played at an intrusive but not overbearing volume. Good to see a pinball machine present, now a rarity of pub features. An old pub sign for the Turks Head is on display and whilst I assume this was the pubs previous name I cannot find anything to confirm it. At the rear is a small courtyard with some artwork and huddle of smokers! The Tut isnt the sort of place you would expect to find anything like a half decent range of ales abut there were 5 on offer; Greene King IPA, Abbot, Black Sheep, Batemans Summer Swallow and Brewster Decadence in order of mundane to interesting. Despite its student / rock fan approach, there was a comfortable early evening mix of people and on the whole I found it a pretty good if rather brief stop in our pre-Donny v Spurs jaunt around town.

Paid a recent visit to Donny. Only pub I visited twice. Excellent pint both times, i'd have liked to have tried the pub at night but was restricted to lunchtime. Well worth a try and if you take the missus the shopping bit is next door.
|
beer quality good; and prices do not seem to have risen as much here as some other places
|
Always pass in on my way to the station. Often miss a couple of trains.
|
beer quality suspect!

Shakes off the Tut'n'Shive stigma by appealing to all sites - beer very good

All types welcome, great atmosphere always loved this pub. Good roast beef and gravy sandwiches
|
Loud and noisy, but atmospheric. Always seems a bit dark!

The Tut hold the local battle of the bands and is a great place to go and watch some up and coming talent...assuming you can see anything, this pub is popular and gets packed very early..unless you go on a Tuesday in which case it empties out when everyone goes to the nearby club
