Hadn't been in the place for a while, but my daughter who lives in Soton said it was ok. So after walking the dogs and with time to kill before the train ...........

Really impressed, a tasteful refurbishment, menu looks good and so was my Hobgoblin Gold.

Dogs will be getting some more walks!

Hello everyone. I have never been to this pub, BUT!!! I asked one of my mates about it and he said it was well bad!!! And his mate agreed but said he once had some cheesy chips which wre good but the cheese was a bit sweaty, but were cheap so he didn't want to complain. He said the car park had some dodgy motors and the geezers inside were a bit chavvy!

I came here after going for a walk to have chips and some drinks, the service was very good, and the staff very friendly, it had a good atmosphere about it and was reasonably priced, i would recommend my friends to go here!!

Saturday 28th Jan 2012- Visited The Happy Cheese for the first time whilst visiting family. We all decided to visit The Happy Cheese for a family meal and some catch up and I must say simply FANTASTIC!!!!! The menu was great the food was to die for and HOT! A very rustic country pub which I bet is filled to the max in the summer time. The staff were very welcoming and warm, the young lad on the bar looked after us extremely well and made us feel very welcome and made it hard to leave the place... My Family and myself will DEFINITELY be visiting The Happy Cheese again, especially to sample some of the up coming live music and will be spreading the good word. GO HAPPY CHEESE!!!!!!

I've been eating and drinking in this pub for around 9 years. I live less than 5 minutes away and have finally had enough. Today I was made to feel so uncomfortable by the woman who works behind the bar. Not the first time she's been thoroughly rude to us and completely inappropriate with things she says especially in front of our children. It seemed as though we were being an incinvenience by wanting to order food and drinks! The poor lad working with her was so polite I felt really sorry for him. Our food was terrible and no apologies were made on complaining, the woman then entered into an argument with my friend who said she was actually quite scared! There is no heating and today is a very cold day, it was almost as cold as outside. There was one tiny fan heater blowing from the window sill which did nothing. This pub is heading downhill since Matt and Jo left last year. We miss the friendly welcoming we used to get!

DO NOT EAT HERE. Had to wait over an hour for our meal (without being told there was a long wait) and when it finally arrived the food was exceptionally poor quality and not described as on the menu. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

Visited quickly for a pint. Large pub with tv's inside. Little garden outside to sit in during the summer.

This pub is always busy, busy, busy - good for business for them but not good when you've been travelling & hungrey & can't find a table for adam. Diddums I knw - unfortunately why bother anyway as quite frankly the food isn't that much. This was a Vintage Inn pub so maybe it still is or maybe they've changed hands even so we won't be returning in a hurry.

Although very similar in feel to a chain pub, the staff are exceptional and the beer is superb.
Food is fairly good too and prices are fair.
A nice stop in the New Forest.

We were camping in the New Forest for a friend's 30th at the end of July and actually hired bikes out from the Happy Cheese (they were really good value and the cheapest in the area). The landlord and his staff were very friendly and helpful so we ended up back there in the evening for dinner. It was typical pub food and there was a really great New Zealand Sauv Blanc which went down a treat and was relatively inexpensive. After dinner the boys played pool while the girls chatted outside as it was such a lovely evening. We found the landlord very affable and lovely and he treated us to shots of toffee vodka after discovering it was our friend's birthday. Very friendly and welcoming and we had a very enjoyable evening.

This pub is a barn-like family restaurant affair which I stopped in along with a few cricket team-mates after a match. It is not a drinkers pub, although Brains SA and Ringwood Forty-Niner were available on cask. Much more food-oriented and predictably busy on the sunday of a bank holiday although we were served promptly. Unmemorable really.

If you're in Ashurst, visit The Happy Cheese. Your palate will love you and want to have your babies. Excellent beer. Excellent food. Warm , friendly welcome from people who obviously care about their customers.
We found the 'Cheese by accident.......and kept going back simply because it was so good. It really put the icing on the cake of our camping holiday. Planning another weekend in Ashurst as soon as possible.
Go to the 'Cheese for a superb evening meal, linger to enjoy the beer, go back next morning for breakfast. Ten-minute stroll from good campsite. Brilliant. Can't fault it. Wish we had a pub this good where we live in Milton Keynes.

The Happy Cheese Country pub/restaurant is in a delightful place set near enough to the New Forest for walkers to enjoy a variety of food on offer here after their treks throught the Forest. The different styles of live music covers a wide spectrum of likes and the food is a superb selection of choices from a very versatile chef and served with distinction by delightful staff who seem to take pleasure in serving the customers in any way they can.
The owners are very approachable and extremely welcoming to everyone who goes through their doors.

Not keen on this "pub"

It's more like a restaurant now.

Staff were friendly enough but no atmosphere and only one other couple in the place!

No smoking throughout which is a bit rubbish!

Was OK, although I preferred the pub next door, this one is also definitely worth a visit.

Great pub! Landlady and staff really friendly. Considering they had a kitchen fire in May which completley wiped out the food side of the business, I think they have done a great job. Menu is large and wholesome and they also do live music/entertainment nights. My family are local and they have nothing bad to say about this place.... Looks to me as if the local competition can't handle the success of this business. Its a shame that people post reviews anonymously.... Isn't it?

Nice large country pub with a good menu and a decent selection of drinks, if not huge.
