Great beer and a must for real ale drinkers. Leat, Whatitsname and Black Dog Freddy tried and all excellent. Weaker beers cost 2.50 a pint so great value.

Stayed nearby the Punchbowl for a week and visited the pub every day. 6 - 8 guest beers many brewed by the local award winning Blackstone Brewery. The pub is ran by Andrew & Louise who are so welcoming you cant fail but want to visit again. The pub itself is clean and cosy with a bit wood burning stove. The only thing lacking is that they dont do food but this might change in time.

The friendly pub has changed hands and is now opening in the afternoons as well as the evening. Otherwise, as before, with Blackstones wonderful ales on pump in great condition. If you're after a bottle of wine, forget it only Stowells in small bottles. When will pubs learn that people also drink and appreciate good wine?

New owners are considering making sensitive improvements, outside seating and BBQs are being considered, but don't seem to intend to change the character of this successful house, so the only way is up and good luck to them. Make sure you visit if you're in the area, ale and atmosphere won't disappoint.

The Punchbowl is located in a sleepy village near to Millom and is the brewery tap for the Beckstones brewery. The pub can be reached by train using the Green Road railway station request stop followed by a very pleasant 20 minutes walk up to the pub. Both the landlord and the regulars were extremely friendly and knowledgable about the beers available. On the bar was an array of handpumps with 4 beckstones beers on one side and then another 3 pumps with guest beers on the other. All beers tried (7 of them) were in great condition. The pub only opens in the evenings (6pm) except for Sundays, but is well worth seeking out.

Wonderful place. Limited opening times - I always phone first. 20 mins walk from station but a lift can often be arranged!! A bar full of Beckstones beers on handpump, wit a Yates and usually another, all in beautiful condition! Combine with a visit to rince of Wales Foxfield, next station on line, for a day of pure heaven!
