A decent traditional pub with 5 casks available and open late at weekends. Well worth a visit.
alexw - 18 Jan 2015 08:47 |
Ever changing selection of beers, wish they would keep one staple ale on as quite a few times I've not fancied any of the offerings. Toilets are looking pretty grim these days and the whole pub feels ready for a refit, still the landlord and landlady are doing there best to provide entertainment and keep the pub busy over the weekends.
Arent wind-ups supposed to be funny?. Rather than vindictive bile aimed to ruining someones reputation?. Ha
Ha
Excellent pint of White Rabbit. Only down side was the effing & jeffing from the poker table.
Excellent selection of well kept beers and recently a real cider. I wonder if this will become a permanent fixture? A lively pub, busy at weekends with regular live music.
Great beers, very efficient staff, usually busy, I don't know why they need to write their own reviews.
Excellent cask ales!! This pub improves every time I visit and Jason and Nicola are doing, and have done, a marvellous job! They thoroughly deserve the Cask Marque and seem to go from strength to strenth! Well done!
Sampled some more excellent beers recently including the world class Gun Dog. Also, I would like to say that Martin behind the bar is developing into a real asset thanks to his warm & engaging character. Remains a great venue for all occassions.
Yamato ... thank you so much for your kind comments!
Yes ... we won the Bolton CAMRA Pub of the Season - Autumn- Award. This was for the most improved pub in the Bolton District 2012. To say we are delighted is an understatement! We have been open 7 months and things just keep getting better and better!! Hopefully soon we shall also be receiving another award - The Cask Marque!! Will keep you updated on our progress!
We now have a live band on every weekend, and tunrout for these events has been astounding!
But ... none of this would be possible without the unfailing support of our customers .... so THANK YOU!!
A warm congratulations to Nicola, Jason and the staff at the Bowling Green for their richly deserved CAMRA 'Pub of the Season' award. Without doubt the best pub in Horwich!
Another brilliant evening at the 'Bowler'. Nicola and Jason are at the top of their game doing everthing to ensure that drinkers experience the very best in terms of consistently good beer and a lively yet welcoming atmosphere.
Re - boltonblokes comments - Nicola has clearly dealt with the situation and as this establishment is still fairly new, such teething troubles could be considered as a 'one off'. Whilst I agree with boltonblokes view that staff should not behave in this way at any time, I would nonetheless suggest a degree of toleration at this time. No doubt, the lessons from this regretable episode will serve to improve the overall customer experience in the longrun. Meanwhile, in the words of Mr Grace (Are You Being Served), 'carry on, you're all doing very well!'.
Bolton Bloke. Firstly, I want to apologise for the delay in replying to your post. I read your post on Thursday and wanted to speak to the members of staff involved before responding to your comments.
I would like to extend to you my sincere apologies on behalf of myself, my husband and my staff. It was not difficult to find out who was involved. They have been made aware too of your post and views, and were contrite in their response. I want to assure you that this is not the behaviour we accept or expect from our staff whether on or off duty. They have been made well aware of our disappointment and they have assured us that such an incident will not happen again. They have also asked for me to extend to yourself, and your 'missus' their sincere apology for any offence caused.
Both members of staff have also been told that a repeat of such an offence will result in their instant dismissal.
I do hope you both will visit us again. Indeed, please feel welcome to come and the drinks will be on me!
Nicola xx
Sadly its seems to the Bowler is not the place to take the missus for a civilised drink. On our last vist a member of staff (admittedly not working at the time) was sat at the bar repeatedly shouting "you F*cking c*unt" and "you F*cking tw*t " at a customer, the staff on duty were laughing as though he was some comedy genius rather than the foul mouthed cretin he really is. I know pubs aren't churches but not all of us want to listen to that, we left and went to the V&A instead, were he would have been chucked out by the ever on the ball David.
returning to horwich has been a joy - bowling green under new management and it's back to being a great little pub again! Hear there's proper music on and am looking forward to it! Need it after closure of white horse.
Ah, bliss! An evening unencumbered by idiotic dance music and loud mouths. Jason and Nicola are beginning to attract the right crowd. By this I mean people who simply want a good night out without any hassle from local 'head the balls'. The 'Bowler' is well on its way to becoming the watering hole of choice for the more discerning drinker. By the way, the guest Twaites ale was excellent! Keep up the good work, Horwich needs you!
After a promising start................................ It just gets better and better! The Bowling Green continues to lead the way with all the elements in place for that perfect pub experience.
The Bowling Green continues to go from strength to strength under the expert management team and staff who set the standards for all other Horwich pubs to follow. Without doubt, this is the best pub in Horwich, so if you have yet to give it a try, call in, you wont be disappointed.
Pissflaps, for your info. I am a customer, have you ever been in the bowling green? I very much doubt it.
PissFlap - I assure you that neither myself (Nicola) or my husband (Jason) posted the comment to which you refer. We do not need to 'big up' what we are doing. Takings and public opinion speak for themselves. Yes, on busy nights, one of us will troll round the pub. We try to do this every 10-15 mins. And I'm glad that it has been noticed we do this. Maybe you should pay us a visit yourself, and give us a rating that you think we deserve. I'd also like to know if the admin for this site can confirm, either via an IP address or other means, that the post is unrelated to my account! ;o)
So far ....... and so good!! 99.9% of people have been incredibly positive about our aims, goals and the standards!! The 0.1% ...... well ....... We are never going to please everyone!!! We have 5 new beers coming on this week, and fingers crossed they continue to fly out of the building! The locals have been warm and welcoming, and have to admit, the first week quickly but happily!
Yamato - You have been a true gentleman. I want to thank you for your excellent and valuable insight, you are a goldmine of information!! Consider yourself a valuable commodity!! ;o) xx
Bolton Bloke, I also want to thank you. I find your posts refreshing and honest. Unless we know the problems, we cannot rectify them. I am glad you feel we are on the right track, and your continued help is very much wanted and appreciated!
After a week of being open, both Nichola and Jason are doing a great job. Saturday night was a bit rowdy, however, both Nicola and Jason took turns to be stood on the otherside of the bar and monitored it all. All went well and many pints were sunk . Well done you guys
A promising start, the pub has had a deep clean and a decent effort has been made to smarten up the toilets. Two real ales (brewed localy by Dunscar bridge brewery) and a mild, all well kept and in good condition, I'm told the larger has also improved beyond recognition. The new tenants are friendly and clearly won't stand any messing around, lets hope they make a go of it!!
Another great night with Jason and Nicola. Great beer, great atmosphere and last but not least great management.
Great opening eving for the revamped Bowling Green. what can I say about the dynamic duo now in charge, other than they are absolutely on top of their game. This promises to be Horwich's best pub for the more mature pub -goer. Well done, a brilliant start!
I like the things that you are saying 'nicola 121'. You really could be on to a winner here, espoecially with the live music nights. I wish you the best of luck with your venture.
We will age check everyone who needs it.
There are enough venues in Horwich for the younger end of the scale, we prefer to have a venue that caters to the more traditional type of pub goers! If we had wanted a nightclub then that is what we would have gone for!
We do have experience in the trade, and have a good reputation for the beer we sell and the policies we keep. And we stick to our rules - no exemptions!
Our entertainment package will be aimed at a more mainstream audience. Never will we host a karaoke night - perish the thought! Yes, there will be the occasional disco, but we aim to go for more live music, including folk nights, rock nights, solo artists, and 'jam' nights too!
I'm impressed with your positve approach rather than the usual "if you don't like it don't come in" attitude thats turned almost every pub in Horwich into a dirty boozer. I await the reopening with eager anticipation.
Boltonbloke - fully agree with your suggestions!!
It's going to be scrubbed top to bottom and some redecoration will be done.
No knobheads after hours .... Consider that DONE!!
Anyone caught with anything drug related will be asked to leave and banned for LIFE!! We will be having a strict NO DRUGS policy. No second chances.
Pissed up chavs ... will find themselves out the door!!!
Over 21? Can be hard ... but if we find that it is better to implement this then it will be done. We want the Bowling Green to be a community local! It is not our intention to turn it into a weekend piss pot joint!
Decent beers!! A man after my own heart! We will be doing Bank Top Mild but we will also be having regular guest ales that rotate on a regular basis. My hubby keeps a good cellar, and I drink real ale!! We are looking at local suppliers, and one or two national ones! Hoping to have some regulars from CAMRA on board too, so keep an eye out for what ales will be available!
How about sorting the disgusting toilets out? Giving it a clean? Getting rid of the knob heads who come in after last orders and get served while regulars get a refusal? Getting rid of the coke heads? Policing the pub so decent people can have a drink without being bothered by pissed up chavs? Over 21 only? Putting decent beer on with more imagination than just bloody Banktop?
Go to the Prince of Wales at Cowling brow or the Victoria at Aspull to see how it should be done.
A little birdy has told me it will soon be re-opening .. under new management! ;o'
Now shut again. Electricity company came last week, dug up the pavement and cut them off. If the local rumours are true this is because the supply was cut off a while ago for non payment but was ilegally reconnected. Either way the Walter Mitty world of this tennant is well and truly over.
What has gone wrong here? Once again the Bowling Green goes from good to bad - a real shame.
I can only echo the comments made below by Bonnie.n.Clyde. Beer recently has been terrible, the landlady and staff seem more interested in partying the night away, ultimate insult though is being told by some bit of a kid there is nothing wrong with the beer and no-one else has complained. A real shame as it was Horwich's best little boozer.
called in for a quick pint on saturday. beer was naff and someone told us the turnaround on different beers is staggerin! singer was equally bad. used to be a top pub - such a shame!
Recently had a mini make over and looks a lot better for it. Still the best option in Horwich for a decent pint of real ale at a good price, great staff and a fearsome landlady ensure a very pleasent evening.
Called in for a quick pint to see if things had improved. Someone in the toilets must have had a terrible cold as there was an awful lot of sniffing going on. Management have given up on this place and so have I.
There's usually a good mix of friendly faces in here and the beer's cheap but can be a bit off at times.
Well worth a visit if only for the decent Bank Top ales at outrageously reasonable prices. Keep up the good work.
Have to say that this place is a gem amongst the many tired boozers in Horwich and Blackrod. The staff work there socks off and are always looking to support the community, its about time they got some support back. Flat cap is great btw.
Probably wiser for Landlady to not air her views on face book but she made a valid point, visitors to Horwich would be horrified that the Bay Horse Hotel is one of our top five pubs. Beer in the bowler is well kept, although my mate drinks Carlsberg which in recent weeks has been touch and go. Well done to you though for turning the place around and maybe dont vent to loudly next time, face book has a massive voice
good beer, great prices and recent choice of a second draught was welcome, please try that again
i like live music but not sure professional krapaoke most weekends attracts many extra folk
I can honestly say that this pub is not a Chav hangout, all the idiots have been barred by the management. Well, there's a few friendly idiots but certainly no trouble :) Comfortable homey atmosphere, cheap drinks and regular live acts. You could do a hell of a lot worse in Horwich, believe me.
After a promising start, another Horwich pub goes the way of so many others. The management Need to get their act together before the Bowler becomes yet another hangout for the chavs and lowlife that in the past brought a sad end to the Toll Bar, The Queens and the Vic&Albert. At least the Toll Bar has managed to get back on track, though it is nowhere near as good as it was in its Biker, Rock and Real Ale heyday. Best of luck to the girls, they are trying.
Recently seems to of become a haunt for educationally sub normal peasants who think the height of wit and sophistication is dropping their trousers and flashing their genitals. A shame as it started of so well, beer is below par and management rarely seen these days.
consistent good quality flat cap make this one of the places in town worth a visit, and the low price is a bonus
Very quiet evening on Saturday - not many people out anywhere in Horwich.
great singer on Saturday night - great voice, we'll defo come back to hear her again ... lot of cogitation over good old Flat Cap and entertainment watching the wobbly people - step forward, step forward, door, down step ...
Always entertaining if at times a bit savage. Great beer, the town would be worse without it.
Consistently good beer, great jukebox.,mad bar staff, all the ingredients to make a great pub.
The Bank Top is the best pint of dark mild anywhere that I can remember and at 1.55, best value in the area. You can also have Flat Cap at that price too.
World class Dark Mild, beer does not get much better than this. Not only the best pint in Horwich, but one of the best pints in Greater Manchester. A proud boast, but totally justified! Keep up the good work, at last a pub that Horwich can be proud of!
This has certainly become a favoured watering whole of a lady such as myself. The G&Ts are perfectly chilled, there is respectable ambience and Basil remains most complimentary of the Bank Top. I was most impressed by the lady singing on Sunday a few weexs ago and was fair jiggling in my seat.
All the cute and curvy barmaids were away so my beau Basil was chatting to the smooth skinned attentive barmen. I think he was regaling them about his days in Naval Intelligence, when he urgently had to go on a mission 'down under' with some strapping sailors, and returned a week later, completely shagged.
Still the best option in Horwich for a decent pint with decent people.
I am really beginning to warm to this pub. Consistently good beer and a warm welcome from the most excellent landlady.
A delightfull evening in the Bowling Green. Several pints of the rather excellent Dark Mild served to insulate my senses from the dull surroundings. That said, this pub has the makings of one of Horwich's better watering holes. Very attentive and polite bar staff (a rarity in Horwich). Only thing lacking is a sensitive makeover which could really transform this pub into something special. The lounge area is a bit desperate, one can almost see the tumbleweed blowing through. Not the fault of the present management, rather a symptom of years of neglect. The present landlady is pulling this pub in the right direction. I wish her the best of luck.
Dear casablanca, you are correct in your forecast that 50% of pubs will be lost over the next few years. Drinking habits are changing, certainly amongst the younger generation. The pubs that will survive are those who are able to up their game, by this I mean providing good beer, good food and a warm welcoming, non threatening environment. The New Oxford in Salford gets it right on all counts and has become very popular over the last few years with a mixed clientelle that makes for a lively but convivial atmosphere. Unfortunately, such establishments in Horwich do not exist and we have to contend with wall to wall football and loud mouthed (some of them middle aged) yobs. I do hope that the Bowling Green survives as of all the pubs in Horwich it has the most potential to become a real haven for the serious beer drinker. However, by taking every pound that they can get by serving loud mouthed yobs they are sacrificing long term gain for short term success (look what happened to the Queens and the Toll Bar). Best of luck to the landlady who has in many respects turned around what was yet another of Horwich's failing pubs.
Dear Yamato, you are ABSOLOUTLY RIGHT apart from one thing and that is the point about it being irrelevent to the customer as to wether the landlady holds down two jobs or not, The deeper underlying cancer that runs through the pub trade are the brewerys themselves, as with the bay and the bowler and quite a few other pubs in Horwich the tennants are holding down two jobs because they have to not because they want to. because the brewerys are not giving any kind of relief to small pubs at this troubled time, first the smoking ban and then next the credit crunch and to top it all a 25% increase on utility bills. If you ask any licensee what they want to do they will all say that they want to sell up and move on to pastures new, I dont know of any licensee who sees themselves in business in two years time and only has a short term business plan and I mean short term being next week at the longest, unfortunatlly a pound is a pound and pubs have to take the pound of whoever will give it, as there are not a lot of people who can afford the luxury of being choosy, much to our disatisfaction, hence the chavy loud mouthed element that frequents most of the pubs at the moment, years ago the regulars regulated things like bad language themselves, as I note, you yourself didn't tell the youth to shut his gob as indeed I wouldn't, why I wonder, not because its not our job to, but because of the risk of attack be it verbal or physical. I, like you, hate bad language and take your point that all we want is a quiet pint, the problem is that there are not enough people like us any more, people don't vote with thier feet because there isn't enough feet in the pub in the first place to make a real difference. Anyway let's applaud the licensees that manage to run a clean drug free house and try to back our publicans in thier time of need, it is estimated that thier will be 50% less pubs in 4 years time than there is now, I wonder who will survive in Horwich, I certainly hope the bowler does as I know that the landladies of this pub certainly deserve to.
Dear casablanca, whilt I agree that the Bowling Green is not a church and that therefore some bad language is to be expected, there are limits. At present, Horwich pubs are largely dominated by loud mouthed chavy moronic type. These people seem to take pleasure in making life uncomfortable for anyone who simply wishes to enjoy a quiet pint. Whether the landlady of this pub holds down two jobs is irrelevant as her paramount responsibility is to the customer. That said, the Bowling Green does show some promise and could develop into one of Horwich's better pubs.
I went in the bowler yesterday afternoon and thought that the pub was clean and tidy, tried the dark mild and was pleasently suprised, good taste and the temperature was just right, I go in the bay horse mainly and I am happy there, but thought that I would give the bowler a try and credit where credit is due the pub was inviting, a walm atmosphere and as I understand it like the bay the land lady holds a full time job down as well as running the pub.so it cant be easy to be in two places at once, its horses for courses and this pub is a drinking mans pub, Ignore the comments that are not constructive and conncentrate on what people think of your beer, if yesterdays mild is anything to go off you have nothiong to worry about, as fot the foul mouthed lads at the bar unfortunatly its a fact of life that swearing is now part of everyday life, not good but after all it is a pub we are talking about and not a church..... Keep up the good work and good luck, from a genuine well wisher that wants to see you succeed.
Popped into the Bowling Green hoping for a quiet Monday evening pint, forgetting however that this is Horwich, so no such luck. A couple of loud mouthed rednecks at the bar who were unable to complete a sentence without the word f***ing! Also, could not seem to live without their mobile phones for more than a minute and insisted that everyoneone else share in their moronic conversation. No action whatever from barstaff. What a great pity as the Dark Mild was a very reasonable pint.
Well I went in on Weds night & whilst the toilets are still at the back, the smell had definately gone (if ever there)...!!!
Called in today oooh! that toilet smell is back, and the lager I had to leave it it was awful come on you were doing so well !
I think the landlady here is great, Lady penelope keep up the good work xx
well tha ting ere is babe tha pig (landlady).
continues to be one of the towns best pubs, well priced and well kept flat cap, most of staff great though you do occasionally have to interupt their social life to get served! they need to find out a supplier of crisps which never seem to be in stock - keep up the good work and well done for supporting the carnival
Good stuff to everybody involved in making the Carnival & races a great success. Nice to have a pint whilst watching all the races
Well said pfft, I think there is aconspiracy going on here. Why dont we all go out and enjoy ourselves instead of calling what is going on around us, we should just comment on the night that we have enjoyed in what ever pub we are in. If its good one night and crap another, at the end of the day we all have days like that. Been at the Bowling Green tonight and it was a really good night although early for most, the staff are really good, well done to the Landlady for employing good staff.
Agree with babe3 - went to Bay, Bowler & Original on Sat night & didn't see a problem in any of them - seems all three have managed to lose the nutter element...!
Dont know what the problem people have with this pub, each time i have been in it has been a really pleasant evening. And regarding the so called drug problem you want to take a look in the near by pubs, you will be amazed at the problems in those.
Still keeping up its consistent high standard. Top quality beer and prices. Good mixed crowd. Cute and attentive bar staff. They even have mild on now, although by the time I'm old enough to consider drinking that, we'll all probably be drinking syntha-hol on Mars.
You really need to get your facts straight before you post otherwise your comments look uninformed and foolish. The Bolwer was not the only pub that served these two, they also bought a drink in the Brown cow. As for bickering, if you didn't want to start any why did you post on the Bowling greens thread at all with your inaccurate comments?
GOOD JOB LANDLADY AT BAY HORSE DIDN,T TAKE A LEAF OUT OF YOUR BOOK SHE,D BE IN A LOT OF TROUBLE BY NOW.
BOB67 - 19 May 2008 14:36 |
What a fantastic difference to this pub. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is as good as it can get. Its a must to visit, you wont be disappointed.
babe3 - 25 Apr 2008 18:50 |
Definitely on the up. Excellent Bank Top beer, a pub worth visiting.
New landlady has made great improvements to the place. Nice atompsphere, friendly staff, troublemakers not welcome.
Very impressed; the pub is lively and I do like the decor. My husband Basil loves the Bank Top and the prices although he is a bit too complementary about the curvy attractive bar ladies and the fiesty landlady. I did suggest to him that I'd love to pinch the cheeks of the tall and tasty scamps behind the bar, and that shut him up.
At the moment, it's probably the best pub in Horwich.
Nice to the the standards being kept up, probally the best pub in Horwich at the moment.
Mush say been in over the few weeks and am very impressed, bar staff all and alway dressed in black and very polite, cask ale's only 1.50 a pint and very well looked after! much cleaner and open 12-12 every day, just what Horwich has needed for a while now, keep up the good work.
First visit to this pub in several years. Friendly bar staff and a decent pint of Bank Top. The open plan style leaves the place a bit empty and soleless. May be somewhere to pop in occasionaly but would not wish to make it my local.
A sizable improvement. Actually open at sensible hours, cheap, good quality beer.
Unfortunately as a result it's generally packed, loud and a bit chav heavy. I suppose you can't have everything..
hello
Twiga - 10 Jan 2008 21:11 |
A vast improvement but they still need to sort the chav problem out. Still, definantly a step in the right direction.........
I've been pretty unkind about this pub in the past but credit where its due the new management seem to be sorting this place out. Excellent Banktop bitter at 1.50 a pint and the sort of no nonsence approach to gobshites not seen in Horwich since Daphnie was landlady of the now dreadfull Tollbar. If they carry on in the same vein then I wish them all the best, they deserve to succeed.
Re-opened Thursday, pub looks ten times better than before and smells better too. Ale still as good and some of the prices have been cut. Good looking staff dressed as bunny girls, live singer on, seemed good hope it continues.
Currently shut but rumoured to be under new ownership, I certainly hope so.
needs a change of ownership quickly, still open at random times on occasional days and now appears to be the place to be when serving your ASBO
Chavtastic!!!!!! Now known localy as the new Albert, Saturday evening the pavement outside this pub was littered with broken glass and drunken teenagers. A note to the tenants, its your outside smoking area and your responsibility!!!! There's going to be the mother of all fights here soon, avoid this pub at all costs. The present licencese's are due to leave soon and it shows, they just don't care anymore.
Not for the faint hearted. Now seems to be full of alpha males doing their best to prove Darwin's theory is correct.
closed at 10pm on a Saturday night
The most irritating pub in the town. Its a good little pub, the beer is always bang on (when they have it, the staff are friendly and serive is normally quick. A pity its shut so much, the landlord and landlady can do it and do it well, why they often choose not to is a mystery.
Now advertising a "Quiz Night" - presumably where you have to guess when the pub will be open.
Landlady seems to be sticking to her no cask during the week "punishment" which explains why the pub is empty four nights a week. Well thats certainly shown them........
No cask beer at all last night and out of the two keg beers only one was available, no wonder the pub was empty.
Currently serving two cask beers - Wells Bombardier and one of the local Bank Top offerings, always a good pint, pub pretty consistent these days, worth calling in, can be quite busy at weekends.
I wonder what happens to the cask during the week when they're not serving it? I suppose it sits in the cellar and goes off. Word is that it's been done to spite the real ale drinkers who are being blamed for the critical comments on this site rather than looking at their comments in an objective way. Oh well, Horwich has other pubs.
anonymous - 16 Aug 2006 12:57 |
It's a nice pub - properly refitted, beer is good. The variable opening times seem to have improved a bit recently, but it's a pity they're restricting cask beer to weekends.
Cask beer now only served at weekends, perhaps someone could explain the term "service provider" to the owners.
Seems to have been open a bit more of late, remains one of the better pubs in town. Only one cask beer on offer now as a rule but always good.
Used to go in here a lot, and every time I've passed recently, it's been shut. Shame really, 'cause it used to be quite good.
Re-filling used glasses seems to have become a common practise in this pub recently, not only is it un-hygenic but also illegal.
Yes - the unpredictable opening times can be a bit of a pain but it's still a good pub when it's open.
Had an excellent pint of Bombardier in here on Saturday night and was planning to stay for a few more until I saw a member of staff refill an empty used glass.
This pub should be renamed "The Unforseen Circumstances" due to the amount of times there is a notice pinned to the front door giving this as a reason for closure. The landlady just doesn't seem to grasp the idea of a "Public House" and the need for it to be open regularly and predictably as far as customers, staff and potential regulars are concerned. I think boltonbloke has the right idea. A shame, but I'm fed up of trailing up there to be confronted with a closed door.
Closed again last night(Saturday)on one of Horwich's busiest evenings so far this year, ever other pub in the town was packed out. Not for the first time recently the Landlady and her friends were to be found drinking in the Old Original Bay Horse, I think I'll follow her lead from now on and do the same...
The honeymoon certainly seems to be over here as the landlady now only seems to open the pub when she can be bothered, which this weekend didn't include Friday or Sunday nights, both of which would have been very busy. After all the effort and money that they have put into getting this pub up and running this is very hard to understand.
A great mystery this one. Should be booming. Good location, decent lay out, pleasant interior. Recently more shut than open. I hope the new folk can get it together.
recent refit much needed, beer well looked after and a choice of bitters, if you dont like TV in pubs best avoided and it wins the prize for the most uncomfortable bar stools - staff generally pleasant
Recently refitted by the friendly new tennants to a high standard.
Recently taken over by an enthusiastic couple who seem to have sorted it out after several years in the wilderness. Can be a bit smokey and the Sky TV is intrusive if you don't want to watch it - they need to learn where the "off" switch is sometimes. Good beer, usually cask Wells Bombardier and Tetleys Bitter plus an occasional third. Opening times can be a bit spasmodic and random.
