Attractive looking pub with beams and character , been to two music nights there which were ok , although they say the music's free but you pay for it through overpricing of the drink , both music nights had a handful of 'local lads' LOL sending out the vibe that it was there local , in short it's a pub that charges close to restaurant prices

3 of us went for lunch, food OK, service OK. Nothing special but also not too bad.

My husband and I just happened to pop into the old thatch last August as we wanted a roast but didn't fancy a carvery. I was hesitant at first as I remember the thatch from 10 years ago ( it used to be nice once but had gone downhill ), my husband talked me into it and I'm glad he did!
We walked into the main bar area and were instantly greeted warmly by the bar staff, we found a nice little table in the corner and went through the menu, what a choice! All the pub favourites and on Sundays a choice from four roasts. We went for the Stilton and bacon potato boats to start ( I really recommended those!) and then had the roast dinner. The meat was not over cooked and the selection of veg was seasonal and fresh. I managed to find room for a pudding, as my husband finished his meal with a coffee. We were really impressed with the service and quality of food, the portion sizes were generous and the meal was reasonably priced. We were so happy with our meal that we decided to return the following week with our friends, they loved it too!
Since our first visit we have become regulars and have even won the quiz there( held on Thursday nights). One of the best things for us is that we can take our dog (Pootle) out with us in the evening, she has met Milo the pub dog and fortunately they get on well. The bar staff and landlady always make a fuss of Pootle and there is always fresh water and dog biscuits on hand for all four legged visitors.
Since the current owners have taken over, the pub has established a good reputation. It has become very popular and can get busy at times which can lead to a slighty longer wait for food but it is always fresh and always tasty!

My aunt, cousin and I met here recently for lunch. We greatly enjoyed the food, which was good, plentiful and sensibly priced. The main courses were generous, but we were glad that we left room for puddings! The staff were friendly, helpful and courteous, even providing telephoned navigational advice when some of the party got lost in the nearby countryside (picturesque but not the reason for being here!). Service was excellent, but not rushed. We look forward to returning for further helpings of their good food and beer.

Thanks,
Paula

Four of us went for a Sunday roast there last week, which was just brilliant. The food was very well cooked, a selection of 4 different meats to choose from - the service was a little slow but it was very busy!! Couldn't fault the friendliness of the staff however, very warm & welcoming - overall great value for money.

We also went along for the pub quiz on Thursday, which was very well run. One of the better pub quizzes I've been to. Sadly we didn't win the 250 jackpot, but given that neither did anybody else, it'll roll over to next week so we'll be going again next Thursday to have another go! (only 1.00 entry per player, so a very cheap, yet entertaining night out).

mattl85. If you could just squeeze one more false review in within the next 10 minutes then this would be a new record for BITE. Well done.

Really nice pub! I've lived in the area for years, and the new owners have made such a positive impact on the Thatch. It's not the same place it used to be - customers are happy, the staff are happy - though this is probably all down to the new landlord's dog - Milo! My heart melts every time I see him!

Well worth a visit, the food is great, the service is brilliant, and Milo is the most loveable thing on earth!

I went there last week with my wife and had a really enjoyable evening. We were only passing through and just spotted the Old Thatch by chance, but now that we know it's there we will definitely be going back. It's a beautiful building on the outside, and really warm & comfortable inside.

We had only intended to stay for a drink and then be off again, but the staff were so welcoming and friendly, time just seemed to fly by. We actually ended up staying for dinner, which turned out to be one of the best pub dinners we've ever had, and great value for money. I especially recommend the seafood pie!

After dinner, we met the landlords (Mark & Helen), who explained they've only recently taken over the pub. They introduced us to the main attraction of the pub - MILO! He is their 1 yr old Bearded Collie, and is absolutely amazing! He has his hair up with a hair band, as it's so long, he cant see without it, and just bumps into doors & walls! Never seen anything like it - very cute indeed!! We are huge dog lovers and have two Labrador's of our own, and will definitely be bringing them down to meet Milo!

10 of us had a meal, two couples ordered from the "Meal Deal" menu but were charged for meals from the main menu, this incurred an extra 7 per couple on a 10 menu. We questioned it at the time but not wishing to spoil the evening rang to speak to the landlord.

There was much questioning an accusation and strangely the landlord suddenly had to go on holiday between calls. Although the food was good will not return or recommend anyone to eat here as there is obviously no improvement.

We should have listened to our friends before booking, we are local, as nobody had a good word to say about The Old Thatch and neither have we now.

The comments on the pages seem very out of date. I have lived in the area for quite some time and always drive past this beautiful pub. On Friday night my husband and I decided to pay it a visit, and walked down from Ferndown, which took about 15 minutes. The pub is decieving from the road, it's actually quite large, and all of the main seating area is at the back giving a perception of being empty, to my surprise the area was quite full and had a constant flow of people all evening. The food menu is extensive. We decided on two homemade dishes, chilli con carne and bangers and mash, proper grilled bangers and proper mash with veg, the food was great, and the prices were reasonable. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was as you would expect in an English pub, buzzing. I would recommend a visit.

Went to this pub ages ago for a drink and thought it would be good to go back for sunday lunch. Service was good but food was very disappointing - especially considering we went about 25 miles out of our way to get there.
Unfortunately I won't be going back :o(

Seems to change hands fairly often, so may have changed since we last whent a couple of years ago. Food was good, but the service virtually non-existant. We had to eat our puddings with half the dishes from the first course still on the table.
