If you are a music lover this is the pub for you. The Vigo Inn stages live music 5 days a week. The pub is closed on monday and tuesdays which is a shame as they would then be staging music seven days a week. There is a great Blues Jam hosted by established local musician Paul Cook every wednesday which attracts musicians from far and wide, it is unbeleivable how many great musos take part on wednesdays. These nights are even listed in Blues in Britain magazine. Good selection of beers and ales. Very limited food menu, which is a shame. Friendly bar staff. The Vigo even offers free camping, so if you are in the mood for a heavy session, get that tent up outside.

My friend and I found this pub by accident. We ride motorbikes and pulled in there for a cold beer. We found the place very welcoming and the bar staff very friendly. Since that night we have been back a few times to se bands. Being an ex landlord myself I am a bit of a pub critic and with the Vigo I have to say there isnt anything bad I can say about the place. The beer is good, the staff are friendly and make you feel welcome. The customers are friendly and the music is great. It needs a bit of colour and imagination on the walls as it is a bit bland but the pub itself perfect. I recomend any one to try it. I and my friends will be in there in the future. We all live miles away but a good pub is worth travelling for.

The correct postal address for the Vigo Inn is FAIRSEAT. I last visited the Vigo many many years ago when it hadn't been decorated since WW2. Frequented by BoB pilots, they would 'walk' WRAF airwomen across the ceiling once they'd put wood ash from the fire on their feet. Those marks were still to be seen then. Closed for three years it's now re-opened and is extremely plain inside. Two long thin bars meet up in the middle and the furnishing is sparse. I saw about six handpump clips and found the Kent Brewery 'Pale' in excellent condition. Live music at weekends I'm told and a pleasant garden at the back. But not in December.

When I saw that it was in the new GBG, I went back for only the second time since The Vigo reopened and was very sadly disappointed. Of the 3 handpumps only one was on, and I quickly discovered that that one was 'off'. To be honest I can't remember what the beer was, but since there was clearly no alternative, and since I'm a peace loving sort of bloke, I thought I'd drink it, which I proceeded to do, helped down by a packet of Mini Cheddars. Inevitably this attracted the pub dog, and when we'd finished the packet (he let me share about 50/50) he (or she) lay down at my feet and proceeded to fart repeatedly and fruitily. This used to be my favourite pub(see earlier reviews) bur it isn't any more.

Now this is exactly what a country pub should be like, the "Railway Tavern", Meopham take note. Popped in with a couple of mates a few Sundays ago and was greeted by a jazz band, great ale and a warm welcome. The choice of food is a little limited, but a reasonable choice of beers and live music more than compensate ; looking forward to coming back again soon.

First and foremost, it's great that The Vigo is up and running again. That said, I've only been in once since it reopened, and while the beer was excellent, I found the emphasis on 'live music' (which inevitably means loud music) something which is not likely to attract me back too often. Good luck to the new owners; I hope they can make a go of it - but I do miss Pete, Peta and The Vigo as it used to be.

This freehouse is now open again after being shut for three years. They are playing live music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. In addition there is a new programme of themed afernoon entertainment planned for Sundays.

Beer in the evening need to change the CLOSED status on this pub it is well and truly OPEN!!!!. Last night the beers were Old Dairy Brewery ( Red Top ), Goachers Vigo Best and Adnams Lighthouse. They do a variety of german Lagers and Westons cider as well as Guinness. Food is also available but I am yet to try it! The live bands are good on the fri,sat nights. Gets a bit crowded on these nights but it really adds to the atmosphere. Andy and Val are really trying here ,The back garden is now open to the public with an outside bar and decking area with a BBQ. I can't wait for the winter nights as Andy has had a local ironmonger knock up an outside fire pit. Top Pub.......

I had to pop in for a nose now the Vigo is open again, beers were great, I'm not really a big fan of music so I avoided the evenings it's on. I think the new owners have a lot of passion, I'm sure it's going to be a success.

Which photo? The pub was certainly closed in March 2009, and as far as I'm aware it remains so. All the fittings (handpumps, etc) still appear to be in place, so I hope they're still trying to find a buyer to re-open it as a pub. Otherwise, R.I.P. Vigo.

Looked open in March 2009. That's the date of the photo
|
...closed at present for structural repairs. After that its future is uncertain, which makes it all the more important that, if and when the Vigo does reopen, anyone who cares about pubs should go out of their way to visit what is one of the truly great classics in Kent.

PUB NOW CLOSED

A unique pub - not to everybody's taste. but certainly to mine. The beer(Harvey's, Young's, Westerham) is (nearly) always in first-class nick, there's no food beyond pickled eggs, two wood-burners and Daddlums. Basically a locals' pub, but friendly and welcoming to all-comers. An absolute 'must' for all lovers of a fast vanishing breed of real English boozers

Good real ales, no food, smoke free. Run by the same family since 1930. A classic pub as they used to be.
