This pub is, sadly, closed - I was in Walton last Friday . Ann Thomson at Low Rigg Farm B&B understood there is little chance of it reopening.

More cafe than pub but provides decent food and a welcome break from walking. Would do well to kick out the mobile 'phone users.

More of a restaurant than a pub now. The beer drinkers are relegated to the near the front door on a sofa but no matter it was a nice place to stop on the Hadrians Wall Walk in the absence of anything else in Walton

We've just come back from a short break in Cumbria and used this pub each evening for food and drink. The place itself is unremarkable apart from the beautiful fireplace and fire. We found the staff friendly and the food of a good standard. There was a shortage of meat dishes ie no steak but that was fine for us as we don't go for a lot of meat. Prices are on the high side but you are really out in the sticks so I suppose you can expect that. The beer garden overlooks the field and fells of Cumbria and the beer itself is excellent - Timothy Taylor, Jennings and a new local microbrewery too.
All in all a great place to go.

What a disappointment! Almost exactly two years ago at The Centurion we had some really tasty pub grub and a couple of superb pints of Landlord on a warm September evening. Staff were chatty, efficient and friendly.
We went back yesterday for lunch but left without even ordering a drink. The bar - which was a mess of spills, glasses and cups - was unattended when we arrived despite there being a few people in the bar. After five minutes someone arrived but his mind seemed to be elsewhere. There was no apology for our having to wait and responses to our enquiries about Sunday lunch were, let's say, vague.
After we'd finally worked out (mine host having vanished again) that the Sunday lunch on offer would be soup and sandwiches rather than the hoped-for roast, we left.
We would award the Centurion a great big 0 but with Taylor's and Jennings' beers available there may be a glimmer of hope detectable!

Posibly the best pub on the whole of the Hadrian's Wall Path. Not as pretty inside as the nearby Stag in Crosby-on-Eden, maybe, but boasts much better food. Like the Stag, there is a very good range of Jennings beers on tap. It's the only place to get food or a beer in Walton, so it is the hub of this isolated Cumbria village. A good mix of locals and walkers make for a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Lovely cosy pub, good bar food, often putting on live jazz, also B&B with four noce cosy rooms.
