My fourth pub on my visit to Neath was the Borough Arms, home of the Borough brewery. Its beers are brewed out the back and some were arriving to purchase bottles. Bass is the regular ale. But there was only one Borough ale on, which was Full Blast. I chose the guest ale, which was Hanlon's Firefly Bitter. The barmaid was friendly and the two customers seemed to be too. Pleasant backstreet pub that didn't quite meet my expectations. CAMRA describe it as "probably the best back-street pub in Wales". But it also claims that they always have 3 Borough brewery ales. So maybe my experience was a one off. Still a nice place though.

Well worth the effort of finding this great little boozer. Up to 5 ales available

Stopped in Neath during a roadtrip and followed the good reviews. This pub is very difficult to find if you're not a local, but worth it. Well-maintained selection of real ales with local options. Also, the owners are really lovely people.

Reading through the other reviews, there is not too much to add. The pub is a little tricky to find in its back street location, but is well worth the effort. Very much a local's pub, very mellow atmosphere and not at all unfriendly to out of towners. 4 ales on on my visit and the two I tried were in perfect nick (Davenports and Clarks). Wooden panelled bar and loved the 70's patterned carpet. A loved and looked after traditional old pub. Marvellous.

I've experienced so many rubbish pubs in the past so it's a pleasure to be able to sing the praises of one, in an unlikely location, (Neath). This pub is frequented by decent people who appreciate good beer and a well run establishment. This is a place where you can feel comfortable taking your family without being offended by the sort of uncouth behaviour that is all too common and seemingly acceptable in many other pubs. No loud music, video games, juke boxes or loud tv. Pure bliss! Only negative is they don't serve meals but the landlord will put on nibbles onb a Sunday lunchtime.

what can i say? this has to be the beer drinkers garden of eden. three to four real ales on every night, continental and eastern european beers changed on a regular basis on draught, and fantastic single apple ciders served ice cold. i love it, my family love it and my friends love it. not to far from the local bus station and railway station.just stop someone and ask for stockhalms corner then ask a local for new henry street.

OK pub with real ales. I don't think it warrants the 9.5 average mark it currently has but I suppose in terms of Neath it is the only pub that really does real ale on a rotation basis.

A real ale drinkers paradise; 3 ales every night sometimes 4, as the ale finishes a new brew replaces it. Also the fizzy stuff for the faint hearted, Budvar on draught for the real lager drinker and an awesome cider for those that prefer. No food sold - yet. The reason that it's not mentioned; its tucked away in a back street and used to have a poor reputation. For the real ale afficianado, this is the place to go in Neath and its not far to roll back to the railway station
