The Tam O'Shanter was my second stop on Queensbury Street, following the extremely busy and extremely cheap Imperial just down the road. The Tam O'Shanter was much quieter and whilst it felt a little bit worn and possibly dirty (the gents toilets absolutely stank), I really enjoyed my visit to what felt like a real unpretentious traditional boozer. It was my favourite pub in Dumfries. Ales were Broughton No. 5 Proper IPA & Wee Jock & Sulwath Criffel, Cuil Hill & THe Grace. There are 3 rooms - a front bar, a rear games room and a third side room. The front bar was populated by a few local characters, whilst a group were enjoying a game of pool in the games room. Service was friendly. Although, I may have missed out on a CAMRA discount.

in this weekends beer festival organised by camra it will win the smelliest toilet and most urgently needs the nicoteine yellow repainted fresh ,then charm school for the staff who r more interested in gossip than elbow grease and customer service.

The landlord of this pub has recently appointed a bar manager...big mistake... The guy is not a popular choice with a lot of the regulars, has no real idea about how to run a pub, can be quite rude, and lacks any form of attentiveness. On two occasions he has started to pour me a pint of real ale, let it rest and gone to serve somebody else and I have had to remind him that I was still waiting for my pint. He also seems obsessed with what people are talking about, a bit paranoid I think. Fair do, not having a dig at the guy but a re-think is called for in my opinion.

Traditional small bar, some very strange regulars and some of the worst cask ale I have been served for some time. I took the first one back and it was changed, but the pumpclip wasn't turned round. I didn't even leave the bar with the replacement as I could smell that it was off without even tasting it. Once again the pumpclip wasn't turned round. The third pint was drinkable, but even that wasn't particularly good. Don't go if you like good beer.

Good pub but made a big mistake by only serving Broughton ales (Broughton pub I suppose). Nice friendly bar staff including a bizarre girl who just sings all of the time!! A few oddball characters drink in there but generally friendly. This pub features an art gallery in the back room.

still has a few good malts

Great beer with new guvnor on board. Good atmosphere good people and friendly place. New Scottih Restaurant upstairs. Very good home cooked food
