Always good food, good service and good atmosphere, highly recommend it, and very reasonably priced too

Two years since my last visit and things seem to have gone down hill considerably. Cheap microwaved food along with the atmosphere reminded me of Wetherspoons!

Our first visit was on a Sunday afternoon around three weeks ago.
We were very surprised and impressed with the whole organisation and the food quality, especially as we had only called because we could not find anywhere else.

We decided to return on Sunday 2nd August, taking friends with us - and wish we had not. The place was in an appalling mess, the toilets had obviously not been cleaned for some time, we had to wait at least 1.5 hours for the food which was dire when it arrived and then they advised, some time after taking our order that the desserts we had ordered had run out.

We felt very sorry for one member of staff who had been left to apologise, with no obvious assistance from her management.

We are very unlikely to return in the near future (if at all)

Strongly recommend the fish and chips. The bar and restaurant are well set out and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Really nice to go to a pub/restaurant and not have kids all over the place.
Previous reviewers have no right to complain about the under 14 policy as it is displayed all over but then there are people who think rules don't apply to them.
Once again I cannot recommend the food, drink and staff high enough 10/10

Diabolical. Went there last night to celebrate my Wedding Aniversary with my wife and daughters (15, 11). The first thing that greated us was one of their "staff" who collared my youngest daughter and asker her how old she was. She said 11 and so we were then given the bum's rush. This was conducted in front of everyone in the dining area... I would not have been so unhappy about it had the "staff" asked either me or my wife quietly on one side and then said that they do not allow children to be served, but to button hole my daughter was unforgivable.

I would not ever set foot in this place again with or without my daughters if it was the last pub on the planet. Go to the Angel down the road in Longham. Friendly servie, good food, reasonable prices.

Now an 'Ember Inn'. which seems to be part of the Mitchells and Butlers group.

The newly refurbished pub is quite agreeable, with tables not too close together, lots of pale colours and a variety of tables to sit at with some tall and some regular height.

The drinks selection is good, and they promote a 'We'll gladly top up your pint' policy which seems like a good idea.
The food is very reasonably priced, in fact I could probably say it's cheap. I think a skeak was about 7 or 8. The quality of the steak wasn't the best I've ever had, but then these prices truely are terrific. the rest of the meal was plentiful and hot, to boot.

I dont recal seeing any children here either which is nice.

It seems like a good all rounder, if your in this neck of the woods.

Taken over by a new manager just before Christmas, first impressions are very good. Very welcoming and friendly (apart from children - which is a good thing). Only eaten there once which was very good but pop in regularly for a drink. All-in-all a very good local.

Just been to this hovel, unfortunatally I have 2 children which they did NOT like at all, after having a 70`s throw back complete with tash stomp up to me to warn me to get the kids out as they are under 14 and this in NO longer a brewers fayre we decided to dine outside , food was rubbish no wander they are cheap, 13 chips and 10 small scampi ( which i know is not wholetail as stated )and a tea spoon of desamated peas and a stalk of wilted lettuce not my idea of good food, hubbys steak was very poor and the kids shared fish and chips which was just about edible. The prices are very cheap but you are only getting childrens portions so if your not that hungry ,have not got children and want second rate food well then this is your kind of place.

Just been refurbished... needed doing TBH! I like it, doesnt feel like two pubs anymore just one with different areas to sit in, opened on Tuesday and has been packed everyday since, good food at reasonable prices, well worth a visit although no one under 14 allowed which might make a difference into its success but doesnt seem to be a problem so far.

Totally agree with John on the Brewers Fayre refit destroying this once great pub. My grandfather lived locally and was the shove halfpenny champion at this pub for years. Let hope they do a better job on the next refit.

Undergoing a refit at the moment

Was a regular in here through most of the 80s until Brewers Fayre got hold of it and did their worst. Back then it was a proper pub with a landlord who had a bit of character. He was enormously obese (yes even fatter than me before you ask) and around 9pm on most evenings he would parade through the bar with uncounted numbers of equally obese labradors weaving in and out of his legs. A sight to behold. He never liked me and my mates as a chorus of hunting horn noises would emanate from our table on his appearance. He also kept peacocks around the back which caused some amusement when they started yodelling. Unfortunately, he left for Dumfries (I think) in the late 80s and the place was almost immediately set upon by Brewers Fayre who blanded the place out. Landlord was replaced by a manager etc. Whatever happened to the bloke who used to polish off three bottles of wine a night?
