Only popped in for a quick visit recently to see how my "new" local was doing and have to say I was very impressed by what Jerry and Allison have done so far .. its obvious they are full of good ideas going forward .. due to shift work and other commitments I cant get in as much as I would like but return I will and I would encourage you to visit .. good choice of beer .. good food coming and comfortable surroundings .. well done!

Popped in for a quick beer then ended up staying for the evening. Alison and Jerry ( Landlady and Landlord) couldn't have made anyone more welcome. Got there early evening and watched the football, very comfortable leather sofas!!. Had a Chilli which was fab, then after a few more beers decided to stay for the karaoke disco. Have to say had a great time, I will be returning.

Funny I'm a local as well and go there quite a few times for the footy and never had any problems, sound was always ok for me they show all the live sport I've been there and they have had 3 games on at once not all with sound is true.
I have been drinking there for over 14 years now and these are by far the best owners we have had in a long time they have turned the place around it now looks great outside and inside, its nice to see people trying to save a good local and Jerry and Alison (landlord/landlady) and all the staff are really nice people and to a few of the comments on here maybe if you used your LOCAL !! more you would see that instead of leaving neg..... feedback keep up the good work !!!

Got to admit only go here to my local when Pompey on sky, heard it was under New Owners, phoned an hour before to check game was on, told it would be, arrived the dodgy channel that they were using was pre-set, things looking good, even though only 8 other people in pub (no one watching football) asked the barmaid to turn sound up which she did, 5 minutes into game juke box comes blaring through the speakers, fair enough forgot to turn it off, 5 minutes later the same thing happened, drank me pint and left, if your advertising it as a SPORTS pub sort it out, no wonder there is only 8 customers WONT BE COMING BACK

Not my locallest pub but always happy to take the extra walk (and extra stagger back) to visit this lovely friendly pub. Some good Ringwood (and other) ales, a good friendly bunch of staff, nice cosy bar, can't go much wrong here.

Big roadside pub with two large bars, mainly for the locals, supports football and darts teams, I'm tempted to call it a community pub. In my recent experience the staff are friendly as have been the customers. There are a few 'chav types', as someone put it, but the are locals, they live there. The beer is excellent, 3 or 4 cask ale (HSB, Entire stout and Hobgoblin) on my last visit. Usual ciders, lagers, spirits etc. I can't comment on the food, the menu looks to be run of the mill pub-grub. Clean, quiet during the day, boisterous during my recent evening vist.If this was my local I'd be happy with it. My rating? 6 built largely on the quality of the ale.

I must have struck lucky then as I was in for a couple of pints on 2nd Dec and there was nary a chav to be seen.
What's more, there were four real ales on and not just the bog standard ones either. The Skinners Cornish Knocker was in excellent condition.
A couple of years back when I was still working in Saudi, someone kindly sent me an email alerting me to the fact that this place was much improved from when I made my original posting. Many apologies for never acknowledging your email but I gormlessly deleted your message before saving your email address.
Anyway, to get back to the pub, much improved all round especially on the beer front. Has a big screen which is well positioned with a good quality picture but no more on that before I start to sound like that bloke with his bleedin' widescreen campaign.

Local pub way out in the normal suburbs. Recently knocked the middle and public bar into one and currently appears to be chav central which is a shame. Dont feel welcome there now. Disaster. Used to be one of my favourites.

Dedicated to the sport of kings, horse racing, this pub is friendly but could do with some refurbishment.

Having sampled many pubs throughout bournemouth the H&J (Horse and Jockey) is one of the best. the staff are friendly and the foods good. the reason for the pictures on the wall is because the pub was part of a race track in the 1920's.

My friends and I love the Horse and Jockey. The barstaff are all really friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the jukebox has some great tunes on it. All in all, its an excellent place.

A listed building! Tell me this is a wind up. If this place is a listed building how on earth were Wadworths allowed to get away with savaging the Avon Causeway Inn all those years ago? In fact if this is a listed building then so must be 90% of the pubs in the Christchurch/B'mth/Poole conurbation.

The pub is under new ownership, and had a makeover. Open all day serving food as well. A traditional pub also the building is listed. Only downside is sky TV.

So just what are all those framed pictures of hunting scenes doing on the walls? It's not as if this is a particularly old pub, it can't be as Bournemouth is a relatively new town so surely cannot claim any connection to the hunting fraternity. Last time I was in there it was badly in need of a makeover. Seat covers were torn, paint was peeling. Just a dive really. Beer was crap also.
