Classic pub with separate sections - however the ale was pure garbage (Higsons Pale) which I left behind...the place was like the Marie Celeste and couldn't find anyone to change it.

The Willowbank was another Wavertree pub I haven't been to for over 20 years. It was my favourite of the 3 pubs we tried. There is a circular bar with different ales on both sides. Most of the seating was at the rear. The gents toilets were impressively clean. Ales were Tetleys Cask, Robinsons Trooper, Greene King IPA, Brains The Rev James, Copper Dragon Golden Pippin & Morland Old Speckled Hen. Adnams Ghost Ship was supposed to be on. But I couldn't see any sign of it. Addlestones cider was on handpull. A much better pub than I remember.

I really can't agree with the churlish comments of the curmudgeon before me. On my first visit ,I was most impressed, especially by the front bar with the "intrusive" tellies. The tellies being high up facilitated viewing from the bar and from the tables and anyone deprecating against this "sports mad city of mine" should perhaps take up residence in Tibet. What also impressed me was the racial mix which obviously reflected the neighbourhood, making it a true neighbourhood pub There were also so many nooks and crannies that it couldn't have been difficult to find a quiet place to sit and mutter

Just back from the Willowbank where I had an excellent glass, or three, of the Caledonian Brewery's Seasonal Ale for March - May 2001 - Flying Dutchman at 4.5%. Nice tidy pub with a very modestly priced food menu. Downside to me was the presence of twin TV screens over the bar showing firstly football - Romania V Switzerland, then horse racing from Dubai - both with the volume far higher than necessary! Sadly, in this sports mad city of mine this is not unusual! My rating reflects my displeasure with the ambiance and I doubt that I will bother going back because of the intrusive TVs.

Good selection of real ales on offer here. There is live sports on and outside there is an area to sit with tv.
A nice local place, with regular events such as quizzes.
Worth a visit

Great pub with a friendly welcome and an excellent range of real ales. The Holden's Golden Glow was excellent on my recent lunchtime visit. Has a proper tap room, various separate seating areas and from bear garden. Also serves good value pub food. Well worth a visit.

A great pub, some quality staff in there, especially the blonde guy (Dave?) and the beer is top notch, loads of staff in from Asda across the road at times, but pretty friendly and great for watching the match in

this is an absolutely ideal pub. i used to live just down smithdown road but would always pass kellys dispensary to get to the willow bank. even sitting in the beer 'garden' by the main road is good. theres always plenty of excellent beer and the jukebox is sporadic so you can talk with your mates. theres always a good mix of students and locals and the bar staff (including the absolutely stunning gemma)are very friendly. what more could you want?

Great pub, with great beers, staff, service and local atmpsphere. Full off everton fans, so don't expect happy smiling faces as they watch their team loose again on the large screen sky tv.
