Two years on from Mr Monkfish's visit I can confirm that the beer still tastes like vinegar.

My visit to this place was fairly similar to the last reviewer, except my drink was in good condition. The exterior tiling makes it look very impressive indeed. The interior is more down-at-heel, with a dozen or more locals. Ales were Doom Bar, Atlantic & Bass. But to my surprise, there was a handpull with Thatchers Dry, which I took full advantage of. There had been a party held earlier in the day and there was plenty of leftover food, which was also really welcome since I hadn't had any lunch. The ale selection won't bowl you over here. But I quite enjoyed my visit here and it's rare that I see Thatchers Dry anywhere. So I'm plumping for a 7/10.

I so wanted to like this pub. It has a beautiful tile exterior and once inside you will find an old-man's style drinkers pub of the type I am from time to time very partial to whiling away a few hours in. I arrived mid-afternoon, the barman was friendly an quickly took my order and I was just mentally congratulating myself on having found a top notch pub at my first attempt upon venturing into Gloucester and settling in to watch the cricket on the telly, when I took a sip of my beer - and then my illusions were shattered. I had a pint of the normally ever-dependable Doom Bar and my friend had a pint of Bass and both were lukewarm rather than cellar cool and tasted like the lines hadn't been cleaned for quite some time. They weren't off, but barely drinkable and as they were the only two ales on offer and the choice of lagers was uninspiring, we quickly downed them without letting them linger long on the tastebuds and left for happier pastures. A real shame, as if some effort was put in on the beer front this would be wondrous rather than a wash-out. All in all I visited 6 pubs in Gloucester on my recent trip and it was a mixed bag with 2 being outstanding, 2 being moderate and 2 being deeply disappointing, sadly this joined the local Wetherspoon's in the final category.

very friendly landlord nice real ale, some of the customers are a bit odd though!

This is a Typical "Drinkers pub", with very traditional decor inside and features from the outside. Looked to very popular with the locals in the area and had pleasant & helpful bar staff. A good choice of 3-4 real ales, also good hearty sandwiches @ resonable prices.

Decent ale, scary locals playing darts. Nice exterior

We use this place every time we go to Kingsholm. It screams "this is a pub" from the outside, and is no disappointment inside. I'm not an ale fan, but they had some which were apparently good. They also do Cheddar Valley cider, not my first choice but okay. All in all a proper pub with good barstaff, Sky TV, dartboard, and the regulars seem okay too. And there is a good picture/poster advertising matches by the dartboard.
