please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

In a brilliant location, with a long line of hand pumps that looked impressive, but failed to deliver, as only two were on. I sampled one, which was slighly sour and on its way out, so had TT Landlord, which was cloudy and without flavour. An unimpressive menu, which I would not even try! I cannot see this pub lasting much longer, unless they shape up.

Canal side pub trading on its location and previous reputation. Unimaginative decor
Pricey real ales and expensive food

My Favorite pub on the canal system, and now they have a nostalgia menu! chicken / scampi and chips in a basket!
Good Beer, good food, Dog allowed, good music, what more could you ask for!
Longer holidays!

Supercilious barman, Very average food, expensively priced. Modest portions padded out with chips or rice. First choice from a limited menu not available - curry for goodness sake! Nice chips though, and location idyllic. What a pity.

Gimmicky canalside pub trading on its location and previous reputation. Unimaginative and expensive food. Pricey real ales served at lager-type temperatures. There are better pubs in Audlem.

Had a very nice meal there next to a real fire on a very cold winters day. The staff were very friendly, the food very nice and came quickly. Couldn't find fault at all. I can see why it was busy while the other pubs in town were empty.

I'm not the type of person to moan about pubs and restaurants, I have never written a review before, but this pub experience was so awful I had to say something! I have often drunk at the shroppie fly before and had one excellent meal so I always had a high opinion of it. My parents visited this weekend and wanted to take us out so I receommended the Shroppie Fly. We booked a table and anticipated an enjoyable evening. What a shock!

We arrived and the waitress had no knowledge of our reservation, and she asked if another couple who were halfway through their meals would move so we could have their table! We felt embarrassed and awkward until she found us another table. She did not give us any menus and we were left confused about whether we would be waited on or should order at the bar. We went to order drinks, and were asked if we were having a meal, and when we said yes we were told to wait on the other side of the bar and we were left waiting again. We were not allowed to put drinks on the food tab so didn't see what difference it made which side of the bar we stood! We ordered our meals, but only 2 sets of cuttlery were brought, so we asked for another 3. Then the meals came and there were only 2! They had missed off 3 meals - but had not realised this when we asked for the extra cuttlery! We went to ask if there was a problem with the order, and the attitude from the very young and inexperienced staff was appalling. They said it wasn't them who took the order so it wasn't their problem. We asked to see the memeber of staff who had taken the order and he was extremely rude and said we only ordered 2 meals. There was no apology from any of them. It upset the whole family, and we really wanted to leave as soon as possible. We offered to pay for the two meals we had received but this also caused problems. We asked to see the landlord or manager but there was no sign of them. Finally a more senior member of staff came to us and apologised, and our remaining meals were brought to us - although they had been rushed and the chips not completely cooked. We were still disputing it with her as our meals were going cold. She was pleasant and apologetic and ensured action would be taken but our meal was ruined. At 10 per meal it was not cheap and it felt extremely unfair handing over such a large sum of money for a completely wasted evening.

We will never go back! Good service with a smile costs nothing!

Well we just can't believe the reviews below.

We are at present on a narrow boat, doing the four counties ring, and this easily the best pub we have come across. In fact it was difficult to fault.

We were greeted by a lovely log fire, perfect as it was poring with rain.

There were six real ales, we tested 3 of them, Theakstons IPA, Timothy Taylors Landlord and Titanic Iceberg and they were all excellent.

We all had a meal which was also very good.

The prices weren't cheap, but then you have to pay for quality.

We imagine the Landlord and Landlady will be delighted to the Kerching family sail right past. They'll probably be spending their money in the appalling Wetherspoons in Market Drayton.

Anyway this is a truly great pub.

We used this pub this year during Aug 2008. The barman was over familiar and the prices horrendous. The food was very mediocre. I asked for breakdown of the bill when I did not get handed one and I was told that it was not possible. The lady serving became flustered and curt with me. As I was politely insistant about seeing the breakdown believing there must have been a mistake the manager was called from upstairs to work the comuterised till. After 30 minutes they were able to reconcile the bill for me. The landlady was most indignant about being called away from watching 'x factor' on telly upstairs. I was made to feel the difficult customer rather than her apologising for a her staff not being competent with the computerised till.

Great food, very nice steaks, sauce, veg and side salads. Good selection of cask ales, Theakston Bitter, TT Landlord, Directors, Flowers and Cask Boddies although the quality was not the best. The Theakston, Landlord & Directors that I tried were all a little cloudy. Need to improve the cellermanship (pipe clean?). But all in all a great pub location and value for money food.

i completely agree with the comment below, its got to be the second dearest pub i have ever been in in my life (the first being the combermere arms at burleydam) and the landlord and lady are very impolite and flat. living just outside audlem myself, personally i do not go to the shroppie as i do not rate it at all, the atmosphere is not good, the whole style of how the pub is laid out to the general waitressing style is very unprofessional, for this i do n ot blame the waitresses at all, if they had any proper training then they would be amazing, and they are doing the best of a bad set up. the food tastes microwaved and deep fried and i would not recommend it to my worst enemy! whereas the lord combermere on the sqare in audlem is a whole different matter, if you go to the shroppie then to the combermere you will see my point, its efficient, professional and the food is amazing.

Situated on the Shropshire Union canal in the beautiful village of Audlem and named after a famous working narrowboat from days gone by. Great outdoor beer area in summer and great live bands at weekends, check out Rockin'Horse, class act. Also good food.
