If you have ever stood outside a pub thinking "Whats this pub going to be like when we get inside?", then don't worry about this one. It was an Easter Sunday evening in 2012, and my what a great surprise once we had walked inside. The ambience was warm, friendly, buzzing, and within 5 minutes, made you feel that you had been a regular in this pub for many, many years. The menu was varied and excellent value, and served in an dining area that was both spacious and comfortable, with service that left you feeling you had experienced a real treat. The landlady (Margaret) and her attentive staff gave a personal touch of extreme friendliness, which is sadly too rare in most of today's pubs and eateries. We have been to many, many pubs in our 50+ years, and this was one of the most wlecoming. Will we be back to this pub?, absolutely Yes, and would we recommend this pub, again it's an unreserved Yes. A real gem in Capel Bangor.

Went for lunch, food excellent - obviously home made/cooked, beer good (Wye Valley) and staff friendly and helpful. Pity the brewery isn't operating but otherwise, top marks.

Disappointing. The brewery on site hadn't been brewing, and we learned subsequently it hasn't brewed for a while. We came specially as 3 taxi loads,to be eyed suspiciously by staff and locals at the bar. The landlady(?) though was friendlier. The two beers on were only of moderate quality (Wye Valley and one other that escapes me) and were close on 3 a pint. We should have stayed in town in the Ship and Castle.

went for a pint and a lunchtime meal mid week in early dec. the beer was great, the food superb, and the staff really friendly. This is a classic pub with an open fire, highly recommended.

Absolutely excellent food and the staff were spot on as well. I don't think you'd get a better meal anywhere, and my brother who was up from london thought the same. The dining room upstairs has been done out really nice. All round a fantastic place to go if you want a lovely meal - it's more of a restaurant in a pub building but I'm sure the locals propping up the bar will tell you it's a great waterng hole too.

What a cracking little pub! Great place to go for a tasty pint of real ale and some nice grub - particularly when the sun is shining and you can sit in the raised decking area at the back of the pub and enjoy a refreshing drink while watching the lambs frollocking in the field a few yards away.
I tried their own brewed beer and it was excellent. What was even better was that every time I went to get my glass refilled the friendly and professional bar man asked me to "take a big slurp" while it was settling, before he filled it back up to the top.
Great service and definitely one of the best pubs I have visited - and I have been to hundreds!!

Following a number of recommendations we decided to try it. First Impressions were excellent. Slightly disappointed not to be able to taste the "home brew". Food presented well. 3 steaks ordered, all looked to be cooked as asked, the toughest and most tasteless steak we have ever eaten! Not a good promotion for Welsh Black Beef! All food seemed to be lacking flavour - just needed salt... The waiter really let the side down - lacking professionalism. Very expensive for what we had!

What a fantastic country pub the food is out of this world with a gastro feel well worth a visit It also sells fishing licenses so a need to visit for a pint of real ale before a day fishing.

Agree with everything said, make sure you bring your cheque book with you though, very pricey compared to the rest of Ceredigion/Aberystwyth. Friendly staff.

Went there last week for a meal which was absolutely brilliant. Nice atmosphere, good setting and friendly service. The "home-brew" is exactly as Quinno says. This is one not to miss.

Went sailing past this pub last summer, then went back, it looked just the place to have MILD. They brew their own beer here but don't brew a MILD. A pity really, it has a nice cosy feel about the place.

A nice little place tucked away in Capel Bangor with a lovely comfy interior, this is the home of the smallest commercial brewery in the world as of July 2005; I tried it and it tastes alright too!
Impressive selection of food on offer. *Definately* worth a visit when in Ceredigion or Aber. Front door is almost right on the main road, so careful when you step out after a couple!
