visited on Saturday lunchtime and the place was busy, but I absolutely cannot see why. The beer selection was average, but when a menu is as long as your arm you should know right away its not going to be the freshest of food. Indeed this was the case with so called home made chips being more chewy than crispy and the batterered cod I had was clearly ex frozen. Why do some pubs think that putting average food on flashy plates and lumps of wood will make the food gastro....it doesn't!

Apparently the couple that run this place use to run a 'Whitbread Brewers Fayre'........well, it certainly doesn't look like it!!! The staff are dire and the back bar is a disgrace. This could be a great pub, unfortunately it's owner seem to be 'dinning out' on past glories......give it a miss.

Friendly staff not enough to make up for poorly kept ales.. sometimes very good but often very poor...On the few occasions i have eaten here, usually as someones guest, the food quality has been poor.. including Sunday "how long can you keep something soggy" roast to Christmas dinner "without trimmings"... Has slowly been improving and i hope this trend continues..

cracking pub, cannot say enough about it.. came down for a weekend away, and wished i had booked a room here instead of the ramada down the road. olde wolde pub with slate floors oak beams etc..real ale was out of this world. bar staff were extremely polite and very accomodating to all our needs. price of food is typical for the area as tunbridge wells isnt exactly on the cheap side of places. missus had the trout with almonds off the specials 15 and worth every penny. i had asparagus starter with hollandaise 6 and the home made burger with cheese and bacon 10. the burger alone was enough for two people. all ingredients were very fresh. Beer Garden is of good size and no real road noise. we did venture out to the better known high rocks pub across town, stayed for one pint then got a taxi straight back here....says it all

Had a sunday cavery yesterday. Food was good. Value for money - not at all, especially for the children's roast (6.99 and no ice cream). Service reasonable.

Went there for Sunday lunch, rather dissapointing. Three of us had the carvery which was bland with soggy vegetables, leathery roast potatoes. Desert was an even bigger dissapointment, we all had apple pir which had been microwaved to produce a soggy mess and served with custard from a carton.
Never again, be warned.

They have got Harveys beer again! Great pub apart from very smoky atmosphere at and around the bar.

Friendly family atmosphere during the day, relaxing at night. Fantastic choice of food and wine. Highly recommended.
