please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Re-visited this venue on Saturday after an abscence of a few years (6-8 years since I was last there). Bearing in mind the record breaking temperatures that we have just enjoyed at the beginning of October you would have thought that this well established outlet would be staffed accordingly and correctly wouldn't you ? It was shambolic.
Unbelievably I was back there yesterday (circumstances dictated so) and witnessed equally shambolic staffing levels in the rising temperature. Inefficient management gets my goat !
In fairness I eventually got to enjoy a few well kept pints of both Spitfire and Hobgoblin

Nice location but terrible service. It took me over 15 minutes to get served on a Thursday evening when it wasn't even half full. One of the bar staff served his friends as soon as they came in, ignoring everyone else at the bar, then walked off after he'd served them leaving one person to deal with 8 or 9 customers waiting. They could train monkeys to be more efficient than the current staff. 0/10

Nope !!

This is the nearest pub to where I live. It's got a fantastic location by the canal with a sizeable garden area. But I never got there these days - do you need to know more?
GrahamA - 15 Jan 2011 07:52
I go to this pub quite often and i must say half the comments are unfair. ok their is generally little bar staff but the bar cant exactly hold more than 2 or 3 staff considering its a too small a bar for the trade it takes. the problem is that the bar needs to be made bigger! otherwise the staff work their socks off and they are very friendly even with how busy it is they keep smiling which is very good, the food i think is very good never had any problems and staff know what they are selling.

On the outskirts of Woking and a neat little find. Beer choice was average. But a worthwhile eating spot so better than main town. Or if simply having a walk by the river.

I've got to say I agree with the comments below regarding the service here. I've called in to this pub many times, but only because it's close to where I live, not because it's any good. It's a nice location, big garden by the canal but the service is always, without exception, diabolical. Many times I've seen people three deep at the bar and only one person serving, which wouldn't be so bad if the staff gave were proficient but they seem to specialise in recruiting half wits who don't give a damn about the customers.
Today I called in to see if things had changed since my last visit; long queue at the bar(at 3.30 in the afternoon), one member of staff who served one person then disappeared out the back; beautiful spring day but no one could sit in the garden as all the benches are stacked up down the side of the pub. I walked out (again). Unbelievable.

quite like it here ok for a bit of food and a pint of ale.
BigAleDrinkhead - 1 Nov 2008 16:24
Although this pub is my local geographically, I hardly ever use it because of the lack of bar staff and the long wait for drinks at the bar that this causes. The last two times I tried, the queue was so long I left and went to another pub instead. As I hadn't been in for six months or so, I gave it another try this week and all I can say is nothing has improved. It's a shame because it is an otherwise nice pub in a good location. As it is a beefeater I think they prefer people only to use the restaurant, as the drinks ordered from the restaurant seem to take priority over those served at the bar to non-diners.

Beefeater chain pub in a nice old building (with modern hotel alongside). Busy on a sunny day due to waterfront location, and often not enough staff to deal with demand. Normally two real ales on. Food is so so - the restaurant upstairs has an extended menu and more choice of seating.
fatcats - 20 Jul 2008 15:16
It's a great place to sit on a nice warm summer evening food is reasonably priced and the service is good
BigK - 15 Jul 2008 11:50
It is true the old barn is looking a tad neglected but the menu is extensive and the food basic but well priced and it's a great place to go on a hot sunny day
hickory334 - 18 Jun 2008 20:02
it really isnt as good as it used to be staff chat amongst themselves rather than serve you and the immediate garden area is nice but the rest of the grounds are so overgrown & neglected it needs a shake up however food when it eventually was plonked down in front of us was tasty
jamboo - 22 May 2008 12:53
Beer was in good condition and cheap for Woking (IPA and Spitfire) Food was reasonable for pub food but the service was dreadful. All told our 3 courses plus coffee took 3 hours to deliver. Won't hurry back
mc3 - 3 Mar 2008 17:03
Used to be decent has a couldnt care less feel to it now! Wont hurry back!
hermiek - 27 Nov 2007 23:11
This place is a bit posh to be honest. I think people go here to stay as it seems to be a sort of B & B.
Will2 - 9 Oct 2007 12:24
Took a while to find this place, but it has a nice warm feeling to the place. A couple of ales were on, Greene King IPA and Spitfire.

So on first impressions, i'd give it a reasonable 7 out of 10
aleman - 6 Oct 2007 10:29
Totally agree with the previous comments - it's like a rubbish tip very overgrown, and neglected, the plates left uncollected just attract the insects and there is a distinct dont care less feel to it
anonymous - 17 Sep 2007 15:16
I agree with the last review. Could be a charming garden but it's like a rubbish tip. There has been a lot of money spent on decking and plants but no-one takes care of it. Shame, with it's location is could be the best pub in Woking. Come on Bridge Barn staff, get your act together.
mrseagle - 21 Aug 2007 15:40
Our first visit since the conversion to a Beefeater and a mixed experience.

On the positive side, the food was tasty and didn't take too long to arrive. The real beer I had (Spitfire) seemed well kept. The garden has a sunny aspect and there are tables over by the children's play area which is sensible.

On the negative side, the garden suffered from being overlooked by the barstaff and the pile-up of debris and glasses/bottles in places was significant. An empty glass that I placed on another table near the play area at 5pm was still uncollected when we left at 7:45pm. This makes the place look scrappy and dirty when actually it isn't really like that. There was also lots of rubbish under the tables.

But generally it seemed improved over its last days as an Out & Out pub.

hey all, i'm one of the bar tenders at the bridge barn, nd can i jst say, ease off a bit ok....you try dealin with hundreds of customers a day, nd if something breaks then u have to take the long way around on it, or if a keg runs out be as quick as possible to change it so that the customers dont get annoyed, nd if the chefs dont buzz us when the food is ready then we wont know if its there or not.(we wear pagers) so plz plz plz jst give us a little slack plz nd it'll b more enjoyable for every1. thank u

Below Average food and really terrible service. Had to wait ages for food, after wiating ages to pay had to get up and find the waitress who seemed completly uninterested in sorting out our bill. Restaurant was fairly empty so I dread to think how bad it is when its busy. One to avoid!
Jaysurrey - 24 Jun 2007 20:51
Nice pleasant pub on a hot sunny day, lovely waitress bar staff a bit on the slow side but food was good
Biz - 27 May 2007 21:01
I like this pub. I've never eaten here though, but I enjoy sitting in the beer garden in the Summer. The only downside to this is I wish they had more room. Don't get me wrong, they do have a big outdoor area, but because they can be quite popular in the Summer, it soon becomes packed.
The staff are friendly and quick to serve, but if you happen to be taller than 5'5, watch out for the beam just before the toilets!
guiness1 - 9 Apr 2007 20:11
Food is of a good standard now it is back to a befeeter.
Very friendly and courteous waitress and resturant staff. Bar staff however leave a bit to be desired.
murphspark - 28 Feb 2007 15:19
To be fair it's not a pub you'd go for a drink (unless it's in the summer), but the food is good, great choice & cheap, lovely friendly staff.
NOMADS - 27 Jan 2007 13:59
Had a really good meal here with the family, the waitress was lovely and nothing was too much trouble, ale ok too
drinkingman - 2 Jan 2007 17:14
This use to be my pub of choice when I was working in Woking.

It seems like I enjoyed it before it had been taken over. My score is for the friendly staff and well priced food that use to be available.

Much better than the Rowbarge!!
anonymous - 17 Sep 2006 17:38
Great pub in the summer, not sure why they closed it during the summer holidays tho, very strange decision.
NormanSpoonBender - 17 Aug 2006 11:47
This pub is closed at the moment. I believe it's being converted to a Beefeater. Oh Joy!
GrahamA - 9 Aug 2006 09:57
Nice summer pub good food average bar staff
supersam - 16 Jun 2006 16:01
Great place for a summer evening, if you don't mind mozzie's nibbling on you from the nearby canal.

Interior is cosy and the food is pretty decent. Always fun to discuss whether the sculpture in the car park was specifically designed to look like a dog turd!
noclaws - 13 Jun 2006 12:48
Lovely place. Good food and beer. Always brings a smile and fond memories for me and my family, as it was owned by a family friend before it became a pub/restaurant. I wonder if they've ever found one of Brian's old socks!!!
RobMcC - 13 Mar 2006 14:40
Not a bad pub, a bit bland inside though. Best bit is the beer garden which is massive. Definately worth a visit on a warm summer night!
Israfil - 7 Feb 2006 13:27
The garden is a popular place to chill on a warm Saturday afternoon and the place is geared for families with a play area. But watch out for the drunken chavs swearing at the tops of their voices. My daughter's vocabulary was significantly expanded...

We left when they started throwing drinks over each other and threatening each other with violence. This was very out of character for this pub and the management need to stamp it out quickly.
anonymous - 5 Apr 2005 12:34
Lovely place, as with all 'outsidey' pubs, better in Summer. Think the restaurant is still upstairs, food there is top quality but you pay for it. Bar food is excellent though - never had a bad meal here, perhaps chris has had a bad experience? Would recommend to families. Would also recommend to those who want a quiet evening in the pub without the troublesome element.
fivepints - 6 Jan 2005 09:46
Great on a summers evening, sitting outside just alongside the canal. Could do with a few more bitters, but inside and out a really nice atmosphere. Be careful for the little kids out on a family meal, though you'd expect it in a pub/ restaurant.
anonymous - 22 Nov 2004 11:09
Harvester style mediocre food leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Beer ok though.

chris - 29 Oct 2004 14:28
good pub. not in town centre so a bit of a trek but apart from that it's fine. the low ceilings are a prob for anyone over 5'7 so watch out, especially en-route to the loo's. beer garden big, staff are quick. politeness doesn't matter - they serve.
captain - 6 Oct 2004 18:34
I love coming here for a meal with friends. Table service is very friendly, and food is great. The drinking downstairs is a bit dangerous for me, as the roof's a bit low, but sit down, and it's good. seating outside in the summer is a bonus (along with any sun in this country!), and it is a feeling of a countryside pub with a townish idea. Plus a travel inn behind for retiring to if your night in the town goes really well, ace!
anonymous - 20 Sep 2004 21:00
This pub used to have great food but it has got bit spare.
garden is great for drinking canal is pretty. staff not happy
gb - 29 Jun 2004 13:01
Used to love this place, excellent location, decent beer and food. Recently new management have taken over who have no concept of customer service, food service is slow or non existent, the overriding comment is that they have no manners. The words 'Thank you' are never used in this pub.

one of my favourite places when visiting england, relaxed atmosfere and very professional staff.food is outstanding...realy!
james hughes - 24 Mar 2004 18:22
Very good friendly atmosphere, had evening meal downstairs, food quality was excellent, quick, polite charming bar and food staff. This place has a warm country pub feel to it with a town likeness.I would recomend this pub to all, and will visit again.
My rating all-round 9/10
Merry Christmas keep up the good spirit ofr the new year.
Kenneth Paul Martin - 24 Dec 2003 11:11
Watch your head when you go to the loo - the ceiling gets quite low!
Alisdair - 15 Dec 2003 13:21
Old canal-side building, but with modern interior and friendly atmosphere. Garden for sunny evenings (and lunches) and basic children's play area outside. Non-smoking area inside. Beer kept well although Martson's Pedigree seems to have disappeared now. You can eat in the bar or in the good restaurant upstairs - varied menu.
