What a shame this place used to be so good. The owner has lost the PLOT!!

I called in last week on my way to another pub just to see the much vaunted improvements the Arkells Dynasty have been trumpeting to the press, and to grab a sandwich. I wish I hadn't bothered! Service was slovenly, I sent my 3B's back, (after an argument), the second was as bad and got the old 'well no-one else has complained' excuse. Toilets awful. I left. Typical Arkells pub.

The beer is not good!
|
Did not have time to try again so the poor quality of the beer may have been a one off, please try for yourself and post a comment.

Beer tonight was very poor, this maybe a one off from reading other reviews. Food was also not the best my burger was okay but the wife's meal of macaroni cheese was bland. Other four in the party had nice meals chef was at the twelve bells before and his food was always good. If I go in again I will update

Used to be a vary characterful pub. Really traditional. But at some point (2009?) some interior designers got their mitts on it and turned it into a generic semi-trendy bar/eatery.
Nice rear garden.
Bar staff more concerned with watching the horse racing on the TV than serving on my last (and final) visit.

yes i would agree, What a lovely Pub.

Returned last week and enjoyed a truly excellent meal. The new chef obviously knows his onions and the whole place had a buzz about it. Will return again sooner this time.

Has anyone ever enjoyed Atkells Beer? Because I have - and it was here!
A pub that has tried really hard to come out of the doldrums and as far as I can make out is trying to do something to get out of these bad pub times by providing excellence across the board.
I visited the venue on a Friday (This is app their Grill night) with the present Mrs General J and we stayed for some time enjoying beer (for me) and Pimms for her whilst tucking into one of the best steaks I have ever had.
Pretty lil garden and friendly staff. Everything you need when enjoying a good plate of meat and a pint.
Thanks and see you again soon.

3 well kept Arkell's ales on tap on our visit today - v. enjoyable in the sunshine in the beer garden at the back. Good food in generous portions - chef has quite a following apparrently. All in all a pleasant spot and well recommended.

Fantastic pub just off the beaten track. Great beers and wonderfull food. Good value as well. Spent 3 nights on business in Cirencester and stayed in the pub. Great attmosphere and a real "proper" pub!! Make an effort to find it its well worth it!

Pleasant pub, classy feel, three real ales - Arkell's and Donnington BB - good food and friendly service. All in all a pretty good choice for this area of town.
|
Had a good meal here the other day - tasty food, friendly staff and decent service, generous portions and not overpriced. A short wait but this was OK as the pub was busy with Sunday-lunchers (which also looked good). Well kept Arkells bitter - 3BS and 2BS. Will definitely return.

A good pint of Arkells is served here by friendly staff. The ploughmans lunch is extremely generous, and very good value

Super little backstreet pub serving Arkells ales pulled with a sprinkler - a welcome sight for a northern boy in a southern town. Cozy astmosphere with a sky TV in the back room and a bookies right next door.
