Re visited recently and once again was not dissappointed, great food, service and beer. Lovely atmosphere, staff as friendly as ever. Have recomended to my friends.

Gave it a year - had a meal - ping went the microwave - not a lot for the money. Ale good but priciest in village. Brickmakers is stealing a lead on the rising sun now in my opinion for food and ale which is at least as well kept and food is better and same price. The pubs character is its best feature but not enough to tempt me back again for a while.

Used this pub for on and off for years. I agree that ale is always in good condition, if a little expensive. Wine is dear though as is food for the quality - there is better in the locality for less money. The landlord is friendly enough as long as you spend your money but once you have eaten or slowed down in the drinking watch his attitude change. Also can be a bit 'clicky' sit at the round table at your own risk - try it you will soon get surly looks! Good for kids in summer though.

Went to this pub on a recommendation of a work colleague and was not disappointed.
Ringwood and Speckled Hen among the four real ales, we went on a quiet Bank Holiday evening and indulged in the aforementioned Ringwood and some excellent food from the bar menu.
The landlord was very welcoming and the staff were equally affable - very enjoyable, will be back soon.

We went to this pub as we recently heard that the landlord and landlady had been voted Best Publicans in Britain in the 2009 Good Pub Guide.
I am not sure what the criteria for this prize is but they were certainly very amiable. Calling me 'young man' did help as I must be 15 years older than the landlord.
The pub is a bit ordinary from the outside, but does have a nice garden. Inside is smallish but very cosy. It is split by a central fireplace. Drinkers and snackers at one end, diners at the other. The dining area had a nice cellar type space off the main room which had a few tables and would be really nice for a semi private do.
There were four real ales on including Forty-Niner and Speckled Hen, I had the former and it was perfect.
We had snacks which were excellent. There was a very good, and diverse menu for diners. From what we could see of other peoples food it looked very good. This was a good find and is now on our list of good places to go.

An excellent very friendly village pub. The food and ales are very good indeed. Large open garden. Well worth a visit.

Been to this pub a few times and always enjoyed it. food wholesome, nothing too much trouble. Staff very helpful and friendly. Great on an evening in summer months, sat in the garden watching air ballons floating past

An unspoilt pub, smallish bar area, excellent food, selection of 4 real ales and usual range of lagers/stout/cider,good wine list.
Welcoming staff, solid regular drinking trade. Roaring fire in the Winter. Restaurant designated non-smoking.A good place to be.
