I returned to West Moors having lived there till the late 70's - I was mortified to find my old drinking den was now a housing estate.
Sad loss - had some fond memories of the place

Was the best village pub of them all despite the decor! Did brill quiz on sundays always a good laugh. John the quiz moved to West Moors social club when the Fryers closed. Still sundays, still a good laugh, and still some recognisable faces I bet. Come along. Such a shame it closed.

It's a real shame that another local pub has bit the dust. I used to run the Fryers Arms back in 1988 and I too have very fond memories of the place. I always thought I would get back to see the old place again one day, but no chance of that now.

Wouldn't advise visiting now! not unless you want to sit in someones front room! They built bloody houses on it. It may have been a bit shabby but that's only coz Hall & Woodhouse let it get that way! Was once a good local that was busy in both bars most of the week. Guess the brewery felt the offer of the money from the property developer meant more.

Further to my previous comments, the local council has voted to allow Hall and Woodhouse to sell The Fryers to developers despite the fact that 150 locals signed a petition asking for the pub to be saved so another community pub bites the dust

The decor is crap because once again, this place is under threat of closure, this time from developers who would like to build some apartments on the site. The brewery are therefore unwilling to lash out for a refurb when there is a good chance that they will be selling the place. Wouldn't like to see this place disappear not least because of the great memories I have of it from the mid to late 80s. The closure of then leave West Moors with only two pubs, both of which are a bit of a hike if you live in the vicinity of the Fryers.

probably the best pint of lager for miles around, however, the pub has all the charm of a mortuary, this is due to the decor NOT the staff, all in all a very depressing venue.

Haven't been in here for a while. Used to enjoy the anarchic Sunday night quizzes. Are they still taking place?
