please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Closed.

Closed in 2015 and planning permission granted to be converted into an artist/student workshop after having been bought by Plymouth College of Art.

Seems unlikely ever to be licensed premises again.

Poped in there one evening before getting the bus home from the bus station.
There was a good lively atmosphere and the landlord seemed like a great guy.
I did'nt know it was a gay bar and quite frankly i don't care. Good pub 8/10

I was introduced to Hawkin's this past summer. I have found Hawkin's to be an outstanding environment. Since the first day, I have felt like I have known everyone all my life. From the customers to the workers, everyone has made me feel at home. Its apparent that gravedigga hasnt been in Hawkins lately because its cleaner than most pubs in Plymouth. And the woman are very much abundant. Some nights there are more women than men in there. And tuna is forgetting that the MAJORITY of captains, pirates, and RICH people in the 1600's were in fact slave traders AND owners. So no matter who's name you use from pre 1900's, chances are, its a criminal or someone who did wrong ... but I love the history of it! Who cares? Guy Fawes is celebrated with a bonfire every year LOL.... Back to whats important.... HAWKIN'S is a fantastic place to be. The staff are the most friendly I have ever met and the atmosphere cant be beat by any other gay pub in Devon. They even have a great selection of food!!!!! Come on by... then come back and leave your comments.. if Im wrong, Ill retract this comment. And be known as a zero... NOT .... HAWKINS IS THE BEST !!!!!!!! Cant wait to see everyone there. Whoooop!

Well..... can see that noone has posted anything in quite a while. Let me start by saying that Hawkin's is probably the ONLY pub I will frequent now. I have been to the "other" gay bars in Plymouth but find Hawkin's is the only one that offers something for everyone WITHOUT feeling like you're on display for the pervs out there. The "other" pubs cant claim that. I have in fact met some very amazing women in there, as well as new male friends. When you first walk in, you are greeted by a welcoming barstaff. I never had to tell them twice what I was drinking, they remembered even with about 30 other people chatting about. The new menu is wonderful. I ate lunch in there yesterday and was served hot, and delicious. I highly recommend it! If that is the start of the new in Hawkin's, I cannot wait to see what they have in the works. I over heard chat yesterday from 2 staff... sounds like greater things are about to come. WELL DONE HAWKIN'S!!!!!!! See the lot of you tonight! And thank you for being exactly who you are. Please update your website ... Im anxious to know what is happening.

Has been renamed The Hawkins Meeting House to honour the 16th Century trader John Hawkins. The fact that he was an infamous slave trader seems to have been lost on the new owners. The Racial Equality Council is based across the road. How very sensitive.

well gravedigga i don't agree with you there as i've been in several times with my bf, kids and the dog and everyone was nice and friendly and beer was great.

Came in here by accident on a Friday night. There were no women around at all (which is always worrying), no atmosphere, and no evidence of any cleaning having been done in the past ten years. Who knows what the beer was like - didn't hang around to find out.
