Greene King corner pub in the middle of a residential area (Charminster) - the kind of pub that the big Pubcos have been eager to sell on. So it was nice to see this one still alive and kicking. It's a large place with 2 large rooms and a covered courtyard for smokers and summer drinking at the side. This comes complete with a TV screen for live sports. Ales were Timothy Taylor Landlord, West Berkshire Dr Hexter's Healer, Morland Old Golden Hen & Old Hoppy Hen & Greene King IPA & Abbot - a slightly more adventurous range than most Greene King pubs, without being too overwhelming. Service was friendly.

Good guest beer - Brains Sa - really nice.
Football on so quite lively but still good atmosphere & very welcoming.
Pity it's a bit off beaten track as would probably get more customers but then that could be a good thing as well!

Quality proper pub in this day and age of REAL pubs getting rid of darts boards, pool tables, fruit machines and pittifull smoking areas to fill with tables for eating . this pub keeps itself miles above the rest by having the best smoking area I have seen with a large screen tv and half under cover, brilliant sports bar I travel a distance when I want a proper drink and the football The bar staff are great in general and the prices are reasonable.

great big boi roast on sunday, and plenty of tv and a mega screen to watch sport. sweet outdoor smoking/tv area. would go again
|
A nice pub, a bit on the expensive side but a good place to relax over a few beers on a Friday night.
Worth visiting just to see the remarkable "outside inside" smoking area!

nice pub nice staff beer good but far too expensive regulars are quite unfriendly

Have to say, I'm loving the Brunswick these days. Great real ales on constant rotation, meat draw every friday, huge HD projector screen in the atrium out back, movie club on wednesdays, friendly staff, roaring fire and a great atmosphere, to name but a few of it's charms.
It has undergone a huge transformation over the past couple of years and now has a little something for everyone.
Top boozer :)

I have been in this pub quite alot just recently, mainly to watch the live football and I find a very nice cosy place and also friendly staff. On a sunday they have card bingo which is bingo with playing cards which I find enjoyable.and also they have a very good juke box in the public bar, there are songs on it that I have not heard for years.Any I think this pub is a nice pub and id recommend it to anyone.

What a great pub to visit and as its my local its the best but i would say that!
Great atmosphere

Give it another try Paddy and you might be surprised as The Brunswick has now been taken over by the people who used to run the Red Shoot in the New Forest. Consequently, there are now four well kept real ales. The Batemans XXXB was in top condition as you would expect. There is no longer a hostile atmosphere, all of the 'what you f****** staring at' crowd have fled to The Broadway. Didn't try the food but have heard good things. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and take good care of the beer. Couple of screens for the sport. All in all a 100% improvement as this place had been in the doldrums for years.

The burgundy red and bottle gren decor will leave you thoroughly depressed,as will the drab surroundings-definitely one to avoid!!!
