please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Used to go in this pub some years ago and always found it pleasant and great value.
Well I visited again last night, and thankfully nothing has changed.
Set just below the 'Jawbone Hill' used on the Tour de France in 2014, this stone built pub is clean and nothing like some of the reviews on here. The outside area is particularly nice, with a stone flagged walled courtyard.
It is still Sam Smiths on the bar, and yes, it is still cheap. The locals are friendly and overall, this isn't a bad place to pop in for a beer if you are passing.

Everything Montague says below is true.
The gardens are littered with cigarette ends, the garden furniture is rotten and filthy.
The toilets are a health hazard.
The service is appalling and the only thing the landlord can work any enthusiasm up for is chatting up the young barmaids.
This used to be a good pub, but it's been ruined by the current landlord.

Called in couple of times recently, November and just before Christmas after a harrowing shop at meadowhell. Both times a very pleasant experience, Sam Smiths, my favourite tipple anyway, well kept. Staff were smashing, friendly, chatty, log fire burning away and if there was ever a crowd of locals that could hire themselves out as entertainment, this lot must be them. Really made us off-comers feel included. Southener friend couldn't believe that you could get 4 pints, crisps and still have change from a tenner.

Good pub on a hot sunny day if all the riff raff stay away, good courtyard for drinking in.
The inside is also OK and nice to stop at on way home from work for a relaxing quick drink.

Visited Pub every week for some 2 years. The best atmosphere in Sheffield has been ruined by what can best be described as "Lazy Slob Attitude".
The Bar smells of stale beer, the toilets need wellies to enter or leave by and the Bar Staff (exception being the girl on Saturday) is frankly a joke.
Not one but all are now complaining about the state of the place, especially since the last two managers were so good. What's wrong with Sam Smith, have they lost the plot. The pub wont serve food for customers who use the crematorium across the road (good custom usually), Refuse meals some day as they can't be bothered and forget the vacuum cleaner or smell of polish, that a never. The rule now is wipe your feet on the way out. If it does not change by November, I and many others wont return to what was our favorite Pub. Sad really, but the customer demands a decent pint in a clean atmosphere, not in the Cow and Calf at Grenoside Sheffield sadly today.

I called in the other day, and was pleasantly surprised. The pub is in what appears to be a converted farmhouse, on a country lane. The farmyard is now a very pleasant beer garden, which was packed on the sunny day I visited. Inside was also busy, but with three rooms, there were a few seats to be had.

The beers are the typical Sam Smith's, average quality but with the usual low prices - 1.39 for a pint of Old Brewery Bitter. There was a broad mix of people, many of whom appeared to be regulars, and a friendly atmosphere. Service was fine, and quick given how busy the place was. I'll definitely return.

This use to be a really good pub a few years ago now the foods really poor no kids are allowed in the beer garden after 8pm and latest landlord is in the wrong job he would be better off working with dead bodys because he has no comunication skills and no personality
