Greene King (surprisingly) next to the Cathedral. Offers accommodation and was my room for the night.
Staff are lovely.
Seemed popular with the locals - various tradesmen commandeering the bar area.
Beers were not the usual greene king. The TT Landlord was off and I remember a Tetley's Cask was on but I had a birra moretti.
Functional.

Greene King pub in the centre of the village, next door to the Cathedral of the Peaks in fact. The Abbot Ale was good, but not the best i`ve ever had. The lasagne was hot and tasty. The pub was frequented by locals and visitors alike. Nice enough.

Visited on a Friday evening. Only Greene King IPA and Ruddles on handpump, so this pub is going to struggle to get a high rating from me, but the pint of IPA I had was kept OK. Didn't eat here, but they were doing a good trade cooking steaks, lamb and tuna using "Volcanic Rock". You don't ask how you want your steak, they sear it and you then cut off chunks and cook it on the volcanic rock provided. Is this a brilliant idea or a stupid gimmick?

Have just visited this lovely pub for the first time since last year. The new owners have done a good job of sorting this once tired and neglected pub out. The atmosphere is great, the bar staff seem very pleasant and the beer we had was very well kept. The best thing was the food though, we had a fantastic steak which came out on a big slab of volcanic rock. The taste was out of this world, and great to see something a bit different to the normal pub grub. My son had an Aberdeen Angus burger while my daughter had a beautiful homemade stonebaked pizza. We will be coming back here again, hopefully to stay in their new B&B rooms.

Went in on Sunday lunchtime to a very empty pub - should have been packed. Four Greene King ales - Golden Ale well kept. Virtually no snacks (nuts, crisps etc - very poor) friendly but gormless staff could not compensate for dead atmosphere in this once great old boozer. Cold, ill conceived decor, cheap characterless furniture - the tables in our vicinity seemed to have been recently stripped and were still tacky. No pressing desire to return.
I believe scientists and philosophers (not to mention discriminating drinkers) call this the "Greene King Effect".

I quoted a web site for this pub - three years or so ago. It does not appear to be live ny loger.
Indeed, no other site appears to be the pub's [although I could, obviously, be mistaken: if so, those stars running thi pub will soon corect me on here].

This ought to be a great pub. The location is great as is the building but it has had a series of poor managers and has suffered greatly for it. The landlady (?) found it hard work to get up from her stool to serve us and looked as if she would rather be somewhere else. On our last 2 visits food was not available nor were there any crisps to keep us going! Sad to see a once great pub lose its way.

The best pub in Tideswell, for my money. The beer was good, the food decent (especially the deserts), and the bar staff friendly.

Took shelter in here from the traditional late June deluge that washed out our 'fun' Saturday at the Well Dressing. Beer was enjoyable if a touch limited in range considering the fantastic local breweries that can be called upon. The food is definitely recommended, with the main course good and the home-made desserts absolutely wonderful. Talk to the barmaid, she makes the desserts and she'll tell you which ones are freshest.

The staff was very friendly. We stayed two nights at the hotel and it was lovely and the service also good. It is a fantastic location if you want to explore the area away from the busy places.

I would have liked this pub a lot more if I hadn't been served beer in plastic. I grudgingly understood why - it was the festival of Well Dressing (one chap explained this celebration was to cajole the wells to produce water during these dry summer months - ahh, I've been knee-deep in irony since!). Anyrates - none of the other pubs went plastic so shame on the George.

Nice ales at this pub - Kimberly ales. It might not be what it used to be, but it's ok.
