All reviews below dated before November 2010 more or less are rendered useless by the incredible turn around that this pub has seen over recent weeks.
The new managment have quite simply transformed this pub, with GREAT FOOD, GREAT BEERS AND MOST OF ALL, VERY, VERY FRIENDLY SERVICE.
We have spent a few evenings now at the "New" Maybush and would recommend it to anyone, whether living locally or passing through the area and looking for a nice pub stop on your travels.
Thanks again to the new landlord and family for making what should have already been a good pub into a GREAT one!!!

The food is really, really good, apparently the new chef has worked at The Randolf Hotel in Oxford and also at Petit Blanc, so whilst not fancy, just traditional pub food, the quality is fabulous. We were told that even the chips are hand made everyday from Maris Piper potatoes and then cooked in clean oil, certainly nothing frozen here.
The sunday roast we enjoyed yesterday was well priced at �9.95 for two courses which included Rib or Beef, or Sirloin of beef, or Leg of Pork and their were four vegetarian / fish options too. The sticky toffee pudding with double cream and a strawberry garnish my wife and I had was to die for!!
The Landlord and his wife run this quaint riverside pub with their son, a real family affair and providing you book well in advance we can highly recommend it. Friendly, clean, and affordable but only 9 out of 10 as the carpark is a little tired.
Dog friendly and right by the River Thames Path, ideal for walkers and boaters too, with free mooring.

Used this pub three times over the last four weeks, once just for drinks at lunchtime and twice for dinner. Didn't get the landlord's name, but it's a shame they can't clone him and instal copies elsewhere. Couldn't be more pleasant, helpful and friendly. Really enjoyed each visit. The food is completely unrecognisable from the previous review and not overpriced. Can recommend the Steak pie - proper pastry, not one of those bowls of casserole with a hat! The beer was spot on too. We also visited the Rose Revived and without complaint, but the Maybush is by far the better pub and we wouldn't hesitate to go there again.

So anyone who can't get a table at the far superior Rose Revived (but still with some problems) should just wait longer or try another day - DO NOT WASTE YOUR CASH AT THE MAYBUSH!
Incidentally, the ignorant couple at the table for eight had to move when the noisy, ignorant daytrippers swamped the place.
I notice the lnew landlord is on this site trying to drum up business. I suggest he drastically improves the food, drops the Smash, gives everything the menu described (onions, tatare sauce etc) and employs another/more chefs.
I don't think Ruth can cope with or without 'the Chinese chef'.

Just had the worst meal EVER in this pub. We had hoped to get in one of our favourites, The Rose Revived, on the other side of the bridge. As it was packed to the rafters we decided to try the 'other pub over the bridge'. The lack of cars in the car park should have set the alarm bells off be we thought we'd give it a go. The 'Home Cooked Food' sign gave us some hope. We ordered our meals and sat at a cramped table whilst a couple of 20 somethings took up a table for 8. After 40 minutes we had to ask about our meals. Theya rrived 5 minutes later. In the meantime a whole crowd of people (who had rented a canalboat) descended into our small backroom and took the place over. They didn't speak they shouted, swore and were generally annoying. The food was atrocius. We had to send back my son's chicken and chips as the chips were stone cold. Then there was no onions on the sausage and mash. No tartare sauce with my fishcakes. The woman (I presume Ruth) blamed the 'Chinese chef' in the back. I doubt there is one to be honest and I think this good-intentioned couple are just struggling on themselves. To be honest they're failing at the moment and the �28 we spent on Smoked Haddock fishcakes and frozen fries �7.95 (2/10), the Sausage and Mash (Smash) (0/10) , Chicken and cold chips in a basket (1/10) and three soft drinks was a complete rip off and in no way home cooked.
So anyone who can't get a table at the far superior (but still with some problems) should just wait longer or try another day - DO NOT WASTE YOUR CASH AT THE MAYBUSH!

This is ,admittedly, a strange way to promote our pub,but having read some reviews we would just like to give some information ,as we are unable to access The Maybush website to update it ,due to the orginal set up still being registered to a past tenant.
We are ,as the last posting said ,"working our socks off" to get this poor old girl back up to her former glory, and feel after 3 months that we are getting there. We are not aimiing at Gastro food ,or any fancy stuff. We are a pub by a river ,with ,between us ,nearly 40 years in this trade,so Ruth is pretty experienced with the catering and I now feel I have a reasonable grasp of keeping good ale.
FACT....The Maybush is NOT flooded all the time . It may look a wee bit damp in the winter ,but it is mostly just the lower car park.Flood plain !!
It has flooded through a FEW times over the last 30-odd years ,but it is not a regulat occurence.
We would love people to give the old Maybush a try, an old fashioned country pub while the few that remain still exist .

I think you should delete the negative references to the failings under previous landlords. The new couple there, (David and Ruth) since January - ish, are busting a gut to bring the place back to life, and seeing all the criticism from the past is unhelpful to them and to prospective customers. I have been there and can confirm that they deserve support for their good value.They offer excellent real ale and unponcey food. Come on - give them a try!
The spate of unremarkable tenants last year raises the question of the management company's ability to find competent people. Now there are experienced people there they deserve a lot of support.

Visited this pub today, November 29th 2009. There are new tenants who have only been there seven weeks. We had a very good Sunday roast - the beef was excellent. The ambience leaves a lot to be desired but we will go back again in the spring and see if the new tenants have made it work. Its in a great position and if they can keep the food standard up they should do well.

Nice pub with excellent outlook over the river from the patio off the bar. Good food and ale. Friendly landlord who is also a boatie.

6/9/09 - Just plain awful, Abbot ale tainted, white white stale/tainted/ six meals ordered long wait and it was not a busy Saturday lunchtime. Moroccan lamb non describable, steaks both rare and medium tough as old boots, two fish of the day 'Baba? - best described as soggy, caesar salad was the best but not a caesar salad as I know a Caesar salad. Landlord advised and he just simply walked off - no appology. This is an honest review.

Subject to flooding, very quaint if often closed - due to flooding.
Recently spoiled by modern refurbishment I just don't bother to travel to see if it is open any more as more often than not it is closed . . . . due to flooding.
When it is open it is often flooded with tourists.
Not a place for me.

Excellent setting in the Thames and great for a summer evening beer if you like Green King. Food unremarkable.
