Greyhound Inn, Marsh Gibbonback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
The Greyhound looked quite an interesting pub. But as with everywhere in the area, this place was closed on Easter Monday. 0/10 for now, until a repeat visit is possible.

Been here a couple of times ( most recently without Mrs Pubweasel) . The beer is ok but always the same selection, the place is not unfriendly just a little soul less . Have seen last orders called a 2240 before which was a little disappointing . Not tried to the food but "Thai in Pubs" is a bit overdone in the Vale . Given the competition in MG, could be a real winner.

nis321, I didn't ask for "a lager", I always ask for my drink by it's name because I alway drink the premium lagers. So no, I'm not stupid. If I ask for Grolsch I expect Grolsch, not Carlsberg. That would be the barman who is stupid. You sound as if you are a landlord yourself so if someone asks for a lager by name, do you ignore their request? If you're talking to someone whilst about to pour someone elses drink, if you misheard, you would ask for the customer to repeat their request rather than make a guess at the cheap lager.
As for the closing on Mondays, I still think it is odd to close all day. I know many village pubs shut during the day hours in the week but not a whole evening.

Traditional old English pub which served me a good pint of London Pride, never tried the Abbott though. Too far away from me to consider eating there but the pub is worth a good session despite the beer range. Worth seeking out.

I disagree with these negative comments, i know the landlord somewhat. i'm hardly a regular and yet whenever i'm in there hes very nice, civil and chatty to me. I have seen him go off on one but only after he was insulted by one of the other customers. True if you ask for a lager you won't know which you will get...are you stupid? if you'd like a specific lager then ask for it, if you just ask for a lager you'll obvious get a random.
I close my establisment on Monday. it's not weird because first the trade is bad, and more importantly, not just the landlord, but the full time staff get a break as well. Everyone seems to underestimate how hard it is to run a pub, when everyone has finished work where do you think they go half the time...to the pub, and who do you think is running the place? All landlords have it difficult so before saying anything about them, remember they work as a public servant morning till night. This is one of the nicest pubs i know, traditional at the bar end and great food at the restaurant end.

To be fair I was not asking anyone to agree or disagree with my comments. I still go in the pub as it is a nice pub. Huge grounds. Nice pints, still a good price. Not had any "mispoured" pints recently. I wasn't suggesting the landlord was a rip-off merchant, merely pointing out that my beer was mispoured on a number of occasions. Food is still fantastic. Big portions and still better than the Thai in the town.
It is weird that the pub is shut Mondays simply because even if the landlord has a day off, he still has staff to cover the day off like all other landlords. I'm guessing he feels trade isn't worth it on that day. Shame. After a bad day ot work on a Monday this would be a nice place to go.
Pity more isn't made of the grounds at the back as they are nicely kept gardens.

Sorry dont agree to most of this post. Owner nice bloke. Quiet yes. Rip off merchant no. Great food, good beers. Just a different kind of pub. Weird that a pub shuts on a Monday ! Not really. Just a day off. Stupid comment !

A bit of an enigma this pub. When you walk in the main bar seems small. There are several rooms, half of which are for the Thai food restaurant. The food is cracking and the portions aren't bad. Better than the Thai place in the town although they are part of the same company. Food prices aren't bad. The landlord doesn't appear to have any form of charisma or sense of humour but don't take that to be him being unpleasant. I just think he isn't much of a people person, which is odd given his choice of job. Make sure when you ask for Stella/Kronenbourg/Grolsch (I forget which big label lager they have) that that is what is put in your glass because the landlord (the short old guy) can "forget" your order and might give you one of the cheap lagers but charge you for the expensive ones. The tall guy who sometimes works the bar is a good barman. Weirdly this pub is shut on a Monday or Tuesday (I forget which) night. Quite a nice pub but had too many incorrect drinks so stopped going there. Prices aren't too bad on the drinks either.
