Been here a couple of times recently, after a gap of many years. The pub has inexplicably acquired the subtitle Puddingface, quite offputting!
This is a Hook Norton tied pub and sells Hooky bitter at £3 which is not bad for the area, however the other beer prices are high, Old Hooky at £3.50, guest bitter at £3.60 and Hook Nortons latest venture, keg Flagship at £3.95! God knows why they have ruined an excellent beer by presenting it in keg form, and at £3.95 I'll bet they don't sell much...
This used to be a local drinkers pub, now it's very much food led, with a few bar stools and the remainder of the two rooms set up with tables for eating. Pleasant enough though.
Food is almost exclusively pies, would be nice to have a bit more choice. Prices are high but the portions are good which is OK if you have a good appetite, but the notice telling you not to ask for an extra plate so that two can share is just bizarre.

Probably the worst pies in the world..... and i work in Greggs

The Hook Norton ales are well kept and served. Pies dominate the food menu. The prices for these are at the upper end of 'pub food' range. However, the portion size is larger than usual, and they are served with good helpings od vegetables and gravy. All in all, well worth the money. Bar service was friendly and swift.

Food does seem to dominate here with a very wide selection of pies. We arrived later in the evening so the food rush had died down. Enjoyed a good pint of Hook Norton served by friendly bar staff. Would be happy to visit again.

Not a pub at all. This restaurant offers quick service but very average food. We went on a Sunday and tried the Sunday roast. There was plenty of meat, very tender but more like braised beef than roast. The roast potatoes were soggy and tasteless while the veg was boiled out and also tasteless and with no texture. The poor meal left us hungry and we had to stop off at another pub for food an hour later.

Heard alot of good reports about this place so thought we'd give it a go. So glad we did, acknowledged the second we entered the building, good smiley staff and helpful, huge selection of pies!!!! I had the chicken and mushroom and my friends had peppered steak and lamb hotpot, absolutely gorgeous, will definately return. Watch out for the apple pie! Not what I was expecting at all, incredible! Never been any where like it, well done to all, thank you for a wonderful evening.....dont let their no bookings policy put you off, it works really well.

Excellent pub, i would highly recommend it. I live locally and come here for drinks after work and also choose this my fine dinning of deddington. Good quality food, brilliant atmosphere and service always with a smile. great all round, its a must!!!

Very poor all round.

Great pub, they specialise in pies of all sorts, all home made and very nice. Ok, a bit pricey at 10 a pie, but they're massive and come with plenty of chips or mash. Found the staff friendly and service very good.
On the beer side you couldn't complain at the selection of Hook Norton beers, including some seasonal/less well known ones. Had a bottle of the Double Stout so can't comment on how the draught is kept, but no complaints from my friend who had it.
A sound bet for a bit of good pub food and a nice pint.

Not a drinker's pub. Definitely expensive. Didn't try the beer.
|
It's a restaurant not a pub. Beer is expensive (like the food) and not so good.
|
very friendly, great food, safe place for two females out without our husbands loved the apple pie
|
Quite unfriendly in my experience. Reasonable Hook Norton Beers and a pleasant building on the main road through the village, but definitely a bit on the cool side to outsiders. The food is very pricey for their Pie theme, which is meat in a dish with puff pastry on top.
