The less-than-welcoming manager installed at the re-opening has gone, few tears being noticeably shed, and the pub is now being run on a traditional tenancy. The new incumbent is friendly and happy to chat and the place has a much better all-round feel to it. Unfortunately the ubiquitous Doom bar still taints one handpull but the local and consistent XT 4 is also on permanently with another regularly changing guest. A much better experience nowadays.

Re-opened yesterday. Is there anywhere I can escape the tragedy that Doom Bar has become?

Great News!! The Fox and Goat ( As it has been renamed) is due to re-open in November. The new owners are committed to providing good beer and good food. They have changed the beer storage so the pumps are a shorter distance from the barrels. The garden looks great and they must have spent a fortune updating the pub both internally and externally. The whole village is looking forward to the opening on or around the 5th November.

Went by on Friday 7 December and it was boarded up.

Went past the Fox yesterday afternoon Bank Holiday Monday....and it was closed. No sign if this is permanent.

This pub was once upon a time the centre of the village. Then it was a fairly good restaurant that did not want to be a pub hence the laid tables everywhere, making it clear to anyone wanting a drink only, to stay clear. Now it has had a change in management and is serving indian food. If you like a curry, this one is really good. The pub part is not laid for dining hence creating a some what nicer atmospher to enjoy a drink in. The place needs a lick of paint and some new furniture but it is a good start.

Dropped in for lunch on a Saturday recently and sadly this pub has changed for the worst from when I last went there in the 90's. The food was OK but the beer, apart from being too cold, was just plain awful. Maybe it was an off day, but having tried two bitters and having asked for the first to be replaced, they were just as bad as one another - the worst pint I have ever had to be honest

Good solid pub, as others have said. Called by on Thursday lunchtime and enjoyed a hearty steak and kidney pie, with trimmings, plus a pint of Flowers. I doubt if the pub has changed much in 30 years or more. My main gripe is that the food, although good, was pricey.

Stopped for lunch on Saturday, was pretty quiet. Good food, excellent portions.
Like baggydave, I'm not sure why they have both sides as a restaurant. Could be a bit strange just going for a drink.
Friendly staff, makes a nice alternative to Oxford services.

Not a local but often stop here at lunchtime when driving up the M40. Always friendly with excellent food and good beer.

Total enigma. What should have been a lovely pub spoiled by turning both sides into a restaurant. And empty on a Sat lunchtime when we arrived, so hardly a local clientelle. Actually an old boy and his dog arrived but I think they must have paid for him to give the place a different impression. Beer was too cold (why do I keep getting warm flat beer, or cold and fizzed up?). Lunch snack menu was limited, they ran out of baked spuds, yet what we did get was better than average and not too expensive. I believe that the restaurant is top notch.
Overall a disappointment but not dreadful, if you get my drift
