BEN123 I am Cheryl the licensee at the Fox Inn. I'm sorry you have that comment slightly wrong, this pub is dog friendly before & after food service..... I've had a few customers complain of dogs shaking themselves leaving dog hairs floating through the air while people are eating (not good for health & hygiene) so the only solution for this is NO dogs during food service. There is a sign in & outside the pub stating this. Food is served 12 noon till 2.30and 6pm till 9.30 Tuesday to Saturday, Sunday 12 noon till 4pm.

No dogs allowed....in a country pub....rubbish policy and out of touch.

Disastrous management company couple have gone - the pub is now being run by another (!) management company on behalf of Enterprise.
The couple in place at the moment, Penny & Steve, seem pretty switched on and trade is already picking up, we can only hope for the best....
Three real ales on offer, sadly only Doombar, London Pride & Hooky bitter when we called in recently, but a promise of more variety to come, and food to be available shortly.

Well, Enterprise Inns greed has forced yet another couple out of this pub.
Called in on passing to find that Tony & Jacqui have gone and there is a management couple in place holding the fort until Enterprise can find someone else to rip off...

Open again...
Seems to be back to normal service, good range of beers and great home-cooked food. I see it was nominated as the CAMRA North Oxfordshire Pub of the Year 2012

Closed AGAIN :(

Dropped in for lunch while passing through. Good pint of Landlord and excellent home-made pizzas. Friendly service and no music (good). Well worth a visit.

The new landlord has given us a very welcoming decent village pub. Lots of events & friendly locals. Food is simple but well made and prices are fair. Thanks.

It's open again :)

Oh dear - it's closed again... When will Enterprise learn that they need to support their landlords, not price them out of business?

The tenancy of this pub is up for grabs according to signs outside and it was closed on our initial visit early Sunday afternoon. We returned later in the evening to find a nice country pub with an open wood fire, stone walls and a selection of local jams and chilli oil on sale behind the bar. Hook Norton Hooky Bitter, Old Hooky, Ringwood Fortyniner and Wye Valley HPA were all on offer, with one spare handpull. Quiet music created a nice atmosphere. Although the bar was a little smokey with the fire going.

Well, having revisited both the Fox and the Carpenters recently I have to say that, as a beer drinker, my vote goes to the Fox. They usually have at least 4 real ales on offer (sometimes 5) and the ambience is so much more comfortable. The food is on a par with, but a different style to, the Carpenters but why do both pubs only offer a limited Sunday menu?

As a very long term regular at The Fox,I am most happy with the way that the 'new team'have updated and improved it. Refurbishment is only recently completed, and has been comprehensive after years of neglect, but the 'pub' atmosphere is still retained;this,to my mind, is important. The menu is varied and interesting;most of the food is freshly sourced and cooked,in itself a rarity in this microwave age.The beers are excellent, being well kept and varied. The atmosphere is friendly and the staff helpful and enthusiastic. I recommend that you 'give it a try',I don't think you will be disappointed.

After visiting the carpenters I thourght it only fair to visit the fox. Even though the pub has recently had a lick of paint - it still looks the same !! The menu is limited and no one seemed to be eating - so we didn't !! I have to be honest the staff were not very friendly and I di not feel comfortable in the dark surroundings - I think it will be a few years before I return and will keep using our local The Carpenters.

At last! Enterprise Inns has finally spent some money to allow The Fox to fulfil its potential as an excellent local that can also draw visitors from miles around. The refurb has been tastefully done and none of the essential character of this traditional building has been lost. The Fox has a pleasant garden and its own car-parking.
The new landlords are experienced pub managers and their attention to detail is bringing its own reward. After years of being under-loved and under-used there is a real buzz about The Fox now and the customers are coming back. It is particularly good to see that the crowd comprises a wide spectrum of people - young and old, locals and visitors - from an equally wide variety of backgrounds. The bar area can get a little crowded at busy times as it is not huge but a quiet area to sit down with family and friends should be available.
The beers include up to 4 real ales alongside keg bitter and lager, as well as Guinness. There is also usually a reasonably decent cider on tap (Thatcher's at the time of my last visit). The wine list has been thoughtfully put together with a sensible range that has options for red, white, rose and fizz. Many wines are available by the glass.
Good food is served in the bar and the separate restaurant area. The menu ranges from pizzas and fish and chips (that are also offered as takeaways) to the usual suspects for quality pub food. There are frequent specials and there is a good chance of fresh fish on Fridays and at the weekends. The food appears to be cooked from fresh ingredients on the premises and quality is thus generally high. The menu is gradually broadening as demand increases.
Prices are sensible rather than cheap and this reflects the landlords' approach of attracting people on the basis of quality rather than rock-bottom prices. So far this approach seems to be working.

The landlords at the Fox have recently finished their long awaited refurbisment, and just started doing food. Didnt eat as we were only stopping for a drink but the menu looks good and the beer was excellent in my partners opinion, my wine was great. Worth stopping by.

Things are looking up at The Fox, enthusiastic new licencees have moved in. Four real ales on offer, but sadly no food yet. Apparently they are waiting for Enterprise Inns to carry out promised refurbishments.
|
Sadly, the Fox seems to be in decline. In the past it has been a very busy and popular pub for both beer and food, but when we called in recently there was no draught beer available at all... The food was good though. Methinks Enterprise Inns may have this one on the market soon, it desperately needs an enthusiastic couple to take it on and realise its potential.
