Fox and Hounds, Oxfordback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
So sad, this was a very old pub The Fox and Hounds in the Abingdon Road. Four years ago it was closed and is now owned by Tescos who want to demolish it and turn it into a retail store plus flats and parking. It used to have a preservation order over the door I heard, plus I'm sure the wall in Weirs Lane is a preserved wall even though half of it was taken away! Supposedly the fire was started by squatters. Very questionable. This pub is at the end of my back garden and when the fire was raging I offered to give the police more information on the possible start of the fire, and they never came round or enquired as they said they would.... It is our only "local" that is nearby. Another social amenity and pub gone. Previously used by the Oxford Hash Harriers too. When will they stop closing down these lovely old pubs? 1st July 2010

Still closed and boarded up and last night was half destroyed by a fire supposedly started by squatters. Not long now methinks before this lovely building gets flattened.

Yep now closed, rumour has it that it's going to be turned into flats.

I UNDERSTAND THIS PUB HAS CLOSED NOW, WHAT A SHAME, BUT UNDERSTANDABLE REALLY. I USED TO POP IN A COUPLE OF TIMES A MONTH AS I WORKED AWAY A LOT, ALWAYS ENJOYED THE CARVERY AND THE QUIZ NIGHT IF I COULD MAKE IT. BUT MOST OF ALL I LOVED TO HEAR THE BANTER OF THE LOCALS AT THE BAR, AND IF HE WAS NOT TO BUSY ROB THE LANDLORD. HE WAS ALWAYS WELCOMING (A GOOD CHANGE AFTER THE PREVIOUS MISERABLE LANDLORD!) AND CREATED A VERY INVITING ATMOSPHERE IN THE PUB. UNFORTUNATLY IT ALL WENT DOWN HILL WHEN HE AND HANNAH LEFT, A RUN OF UNSMILING MANAGERS AND THE CRAWLING BACK IN OF THE UNWASHED LOUTS MADE THIS A NOT VERY NICE PLACE TO BE IN INDEED! I HOPE IT WILL NOT BE CLOSED PERMANENTLY, AND IT CAN BE TAKEN BACK TO THE WAY IT USED TO BE, BUT WHOEVER TRIES WILL HAVE A JOB ON THERE HANDS.

seems to have closed

The best Sunday roast in Oxford, possibly the world, and cheap to boot. Beer is nothing special, but unimportant. The staff are friendly, some of the locals colourful. The building is quite pretty: full of stuffed fish (confusing for a pub named after hunting) with a carvery area made to look like a French rural cafe.
