Closed and converted into serviced apartments (I suspect the last reviewer meant to comment on the Chequers at 131 High Street).

Conversely improved despite the ditching of a couple of pool tables a few years back, this alleyway stop off isn't all that bad although it can feel listless due to it primarily featuring as a place for weary shoppers. The heraldry recalls 'merrie England' in a generally naff, but inoffensive way and the food looks passable. Ales come in few hues but were perhaps slightly cooler than necessary - possibly due to atmospheric conditions.

This should be the best pub in oxford given it's location and history but sadly it's not. Not awful but not very good either. Fine for a passing pint.

Better than the current rating here suggests. Worth a look.

Now called "Maroon" (i think)

Excellent value for money. Why does the floor vibrate though? Very odd.

When I was last there it was a nasty little pub with a surly manager (standard quote "if you're not buying a drink you can't stay here"), but I think it's changed hands since then, so it may have improved.
The only reason to go there used to be the cheap pool tables.
