On Saturday 23rd January I will go to the great western with a group of ten people. I will get in very early and stay there most of the day. I will purposely sit at table 10 and wait for Paul 36 to come in. I shall then wave at him and say sorry but this table is full you will have to sit upstairs at table 30.

I usually use Wetherspoon's for dining (with beer on the side), but this is one which I have visited just for beer. And I probably would not have if it wasn't raining heavily as I got off the train, as it seemed to do all through my 2015 journey. However, it was pleasant enough, just a few late breakfasting/early lunchers in, so service was good and a pint of Doom Bar (2.29) hit the spot. Very impressive exterior, indoors a little less barn like than some Wetherspoon's.

The exterior of the building is glorious but put together JD Wetherspoon, alcopops, a cavernous interior and all the other issues one associates with that chain and it was never going to be good was it? The ale selection was also more limited than normal.
Very limited beer selection on Wednesday night. Nothing special about this Spoons.
So-so Wetherspoons. Rhymney Export very nice, Marston's Pedigree good, but nothing else of interest. Definitely aimed at the weekend vertical drinker.
Only 5 handpumps in this outlet with 4 usual MacSpoons suspects on,along with Rhymney Export as guest though surprise surprise it was "coming soon"..... Grr etc. The half of Pedigree was ok though.

Staying at the Travelodge on a weekend wanted somewhere close for an evening drink. St. Marys Street Cardiff can be a bit scary at night on a Fri/Sat night. For a Lloyds bar this was quite civilised, and we spent a pleasent evening after a meal elsewhere.Beer and wine OK. Would visit again.

Beer is excellent.Catch it before the festival ends.
looking forward to the beer festival.Although ther are only five handpumps, beer is sure to be excellent.
First visit for awhile.Unusually for a LLoyds Bar, good real ale.Chris prepared an exceptional pint of Pedigree this week.
ok on a quiet Saturday lunchtime. Welsh beers in good condition.
Yeah was reasonable enough when visited recently, only 5 handpulls which sold the beer festival a bit short. the ale was tip top and the manager with the shaved head serving was pleasant.
not a bad pub good atmoshpere for the after work drink.
A stereotypical chav pub, I don't think the bouncers are members of mensa.. If you are not a chav you will be informed there is a dress code!!
Just to up-date. This establishment is now a Lloyds Bar and called "The Great Western" (as it used to be called before The Bush Pig!).
Gets very busy and sells some of the cheapest beer around Cardiff (a few Ps cheaper than the City Centre Spoons places!).
Good for going in for a few pints after the daily grind!
There is food now. But it's chav central in there. So only go in if you are a fan of von dutch and burberry and drink woosy bottles!
Plenty of big screens for live football and two bars for fast service. No food though...
