went in mid-week afternoon only a few in the had a courage best at 3-10 a pint which seem a bit expensive for a locals pub. ok pint but not the best.would not go again if in basingstoke
|
Ok pub, friendly staff and a good place to go to watch the football. Stick to the lager though as the "real ales" I tried were definitely on the turn.

Good estate pub, the breakfasts are brilliant one of the best that i have ever had whilst out, the price is slightly on the high side for Guinness and Kronenberg but by no means the highest in the area. The landlords, Jim and Jackie are lovely and very welcoming and they also have there children working there which gives it a nice family feel. The places is usually full of locals who give it a friendly feeling.

Well.......as stated in my last post I could stomach paying 3.20 for a pint......that is now 3.40 which even with the recent economy problems is still too high. Especially when the welcome sometimes isn't all that.....but the landlord and missus are fine though.

Had the 'Crofts Creamy Chicken Curry' yesterday.....it was actually really nice. I didn't mind paying the 5.50 for it (no pound sign sadly, American keyboard!) as it was filling and a I got a generous portion of chips with it too..........Daddies tomato sauce available, very nice too! The other week I had the steak and ale pie, which is in a bowl with a pastry lid, but was still really nice with chips and a side salad. Jim is a real whizz in the kitchen, looking at the comment about the Guinness I would agree, it is a nice pint so I don't mind paying 3.20 for it.......some traditional bitters on too. Was a good night last night as the pool teams were playing, the pub gets quite lively.....

i have visited this pub a few times and i was amazed by the friendly people in the pub the food is excellent wendy (one of the barmaids) served me with her bubbly self she is well liked and i had a lovely meal and i agree the guinness is the best in basingstoke and i will come back again
|
Agree with much below, this is a really good pub and one of, if not the best in Basingstoke. One thing though, Jim is not the manager, he is the landlord of the property.

Nice pub. Locals friendly. Popped in for lunch was served by a particularly friendly bar maid with a sense of humour as well. You can see she is well liked by the customers. Draught ales. Clean inside and the food was homemade. Basic menu but well served. Have had a Sunday roast in here all homemade. Book tho. Guinness best in basingstoke. Will certainly return.

A good friendly pub. Its mainly a regular older crowd that go in so no obnoxious youngersters in getting drunk and rowdy. Bar staff are friendly and the food is home made. Much better now they have a permanent Manager in. Can be busy on a Thursday night as they have 4 pool teams playing out of there. No kids are allowed on the pool tables. Tables are well maintained Also a crib and darts team. Plenty of evening entertainment. Bands are now playing frequently, Angelius are definitely worth a watch. A rock night on the first saturday of the month (getting very popular). sky TV so the footy fans are happy, can get busy on these afternoons. But wonders of wonders you can still have the jukebox on if your playing pool and not bother the footy fans. Ladies are always clean and fresh smelling. Overall a nice friendly pub.

Mind your head when they have the large screen on as you could walk into the open window behind it !! could"nt you john!
|
They have a large projector screen to show the association football in here, but it gets to hot and they have to open the window behind it to keep it cool,so a word of warning dont walk out of the door next to the open window or you will smack straight into it!! WON"T YOU JOHNNY!

This used to be my local when I lived in the Buckskin area a few years ago. Ok if you want a quiet drink and I believe the food isn't to bad either.
