Since the horrendous changes to the atmosphere of The Castle on Fridays/weekends The Union is now our preferred pub in St Ives. Usually three ales on, Tribute, Ghost Ship and Doombar. Food excellent - try the jacket spuds with filling!

Nice pub really.
Would have scored higher if they had the bloody fire on in midwinter!
6/10

A little bit formal but serves the best Liver and Bacon I have had for a while. Beer selection is limited.

Nice pub which only served doombar at the time. Food was good.

A pleasant enough pub in the main shopping street. The walls were plastered in old black and white photos of St. Ives, mostly focusing on its nautical heritage. Im sure theyd make a fascinating study for a historian, and were very interesting to an uneducated punter such as myself.
Theres a dart board in one corner, although it didnt look to get too much use judging by all the tables in front of it. The walls are part wood panelling at the bottom, giving way to an orange plaster above, which is then covered with the aforementioned photos. Theres also a couple of leather sofas dotted around a fireplace. The barman seemed pleasant enough, and generously offered to top a pint whose head had settled without any prompting. The choice of piped music was a bit weird though.
The solitary beer on tap was Doom Bar, which was a little disappointing. Ciders were Cornish Orchard and Cornish Rattler.

Doom bar and hetty stogies on the draft and my brother beer was a little warm - guniness fairly good. Very average pub in a town full of ones much better. Castle and Queens much better - staff seemed a little stuck up, food supposed to be good but didnt try it

Very similar in style to the castle next door. Lacks the selection of ales though with only Doom Bar available at the time. Food is good particularly sunday lunch.

Really like this pub. Doom Bar and Betty Stogs both well kept. Went in here virtually every night this time on holiday. Nice atmosphere, friendly locals and staff. Didn't eat here but the food looked good.

Rather like this pub, food was fine, very busy as most pubs are in St Ives, but still maintained a nice pubby feel, rather than just a tourist gastro pub.
|
used this place a couple of times and thought it was very good value, nothing fancy but reasonably priced home cooked food, ales were limited to doombar and betty stoggs but both were well kept one of the best in st ives, and if you think this is a typical tourist trap you havn't tried the pubs on the sea front

We stayed in St Ives recently and the Union was our favourite watering hole, enjoyed the atmosphere, staff very frieindly and a nice touch was you only had to order your drinks once, each time afer the staff knew what you wanted. Grab a table by the window and let the world walk by.

Wanted to dine in the Castle (qv) but rest of company preferred the look of the menu here - mistake. Typical tourist trap fare included the omnipresent "local 3 fishes" which seemed to represent a case of long time no sea. As to the beer, tried two but I don't think they care so......

One of those eerie Cornish experiences...as you walk in the pub, the place goes silent and they all stare at you! And this in the middle of a top resort on a sunny day in late September. I didn't stay long!!
