Much improved since the Pipers days. Real ales, food, strangely trendyish.....but not. Drinks prices seem good for Swindon.

Went in just after the new menu: had an excellent meal at a "non-trivial, but worth it" cost, and then saw the Happy Hour start, with attendant peeps... Think this place is working up to an identity crisis :-(

Been here a couple of times now. I'm not normally a fan of this type of modern "white sofa and Sky Sports"place, embarrassingly, I quite like here.
They've a couple of drinkable real beers amongst the fizz, some reasonable wines, and the food is limited in choice, but very good, usually... They occasionally have some aberrations on the food front, one strangely mushy jacket potato springs to mind, but there have also been far more excellent meals. Also important is that it has always been possible to avoid the sport, if we've wanted to.
Not a replacement for my usual haunts, but when I want to pretend I'm "cool" I'll go here and still enjoy myself; and the Lady Chairwoman likes it, so we will be visiting fairly regularly.

Visited lunchtime today, not my cup of tea, all the atmosphere of a motorway service station. Plain cafe bar style, 4 handpumps, only one beer on 'pig on the hill' allegedly brewed by Hancocks. Fine selection of fizz fonts on the bar, very disappointing especially considering how much fuss the local Swindon CAMRA veg made of its reopening.
GONE!! Opened up as "The Pig on the hill" Appears to be a trendy bar type place. Not been in yet so maybe I should reserve judgement.
Piece in the Adver last week saying this place is re-opening as the 'Pig on the Hill' imminently, supposedly a proper pub again offering locally sourced home cooked food and decent ales. I will reserve judgment until I've paid it a visit, but god knows this pup deserves a bit of success considering how many different makeovers and names its had over the last 15 years, all of which have failed dismally.

Still closed and boarded up.
Closed and boarded again.
"Under new management" signs from the ranting hodge's viewing are still displayed, though alas shut again and the steel shutters have returned.......
Drove past it this week and its open again, no gen on beers or orientation of pub though.
Shut and boarded up again. It's a real shame that something can't be done witht his place. I don't know who owns it but they need to come up with a long term plan.

I am happy to say the Pipers Arms has now re-opened! I last visited this pub about 2 years ago and having heard that they had re-opened I was curious to see what it was like. WOW what a transformation! There'a now an atmosphere in here, great staff I was made to feel very welcome. I also discovered they now do food. My partner and I decided to give it a try and were very impressed, all cooked fresh and did not have to wait either. They also have live music at the weekends and a quiz night on a Tuesday which is free to enter with a 50 prize! We shall be visiting this pub regularly and would recommend to anyone who enjoys good food, drink and real ale, with an atmoshere to boot!

obviously they were too cheap!
Still closed with steel shutters at the windows. It don't look good I'm afraid.
It's currently shut (closed the doors in early march in a bit of rush). Will hopefully re-open soon. The music is missed.

Place is in the doldrums at the moment, which is a shame. One of too few places in Old Town with live music every weekend. Looks as if it's constantly being done up, get that finished and we'll see. 3 or 4 real ales, standard selection all round.
Beer is reasonable, but probably a little over priced. Atmostphere has always been a little lacking. Like my old school report this one's is 'Could do better'.
New boss comes with a good reputation. It's always been an okay pub hope the new boss brings his good habits and makes it "well worth a visit" (could start by reviewing a few prices, this is only Swindon you know?). Bar staff are pleasant & pleasing to the eye.
It's always been the higher end of average pricewise, but it's just gone up & 2:70 for a pint of Carling is getting a bit ridiculous. Still worth a visit for big games if your wallet can stand the strain.
Good live music most weekends, big screen Sky Sports, limited ale selection (usually on), cheap decent food, friendly staff. Easily worth a weekend or big match visit.
