If I had to choose a modern bar in Derby to go to rather than a pub, then this is the place I would go to. Not that I would do that anyway though, not with the great range of pubs Derby has to offer. I did end up going here with a few friends recently however and the thing that did please me was the fact you don't have to wait 15 minutes to be served unlike a lot of the bars round there. Unfortunately there's no real ale but there is a small range of international bottled beers, some of which are bottle conditioned.

Kitchen and food was rated 0/5 by the council last year for poor hygiene.
I have eaten there since but it is nothing special.
Place is ok and quite smart but the toilets are dreadful and very small. Tip - don't stand too close to the door if you do not want to be unveiled like a Xmas present.
Beer is DREADFUL. The worst ever John Smiths on nitro keg I've ever had. The barman assured me it was ok but I took it back twice as it was undrinkable.
Does have an excellent if very expensive range of spirits (not many malts), cocktails and a bottle of Derby Brewing Co's "Business As Usual".
Overall ok but nothing special

Very smart lounge bar in Derbys central square. Has some fantastic seats carved out of old tree stumps, I suspect they cost a fortune. The rest of the inside is on two levels and is all very classy, the beer and wine prices reflect this as a pint of Becks Vier and a glass of red wine was 7.30. There was no real stuff on the bar but as some of the food contained Derby brewery beers I found that a bit strange. We didnt eat here but the food looked very good. A sharer for two, full rack of ribs, buffalo chicken wings onion rings and chips was 9.95 and the portions were massive. Theres also a large outside area overlooking the market place. Its a smart place.

I accidentally went to the ladies' here...
Hellishly expensive too!

Outstanding environment for a properly made cocktail with a fantastic collections of premium spirits. Bar staff are properly trained in mixology, although be prepared for extortionate prices. (5+ for a number of cocktails)

Though it looks unpromising from the outside (buried beneath the 70's Assembly Rooms), this place is great inside. The design makes it feel sophisticated without being poncy, something like a Manhatton cocktail bar.
Cocktails are a bargain weekday evenings at 2.80 each, though the beer is all lager and not the cheapest. There are some interesting bottles however such as Leffe.
A first rate place to relax for a drink after work, a world away from the Walkabout over the road.
